mmmmmm I suppose that a lot of these cases as were pointed out come from poorer countries where the person has internet access and all of a sudden develops an undying love for someone they have never met who is nonetheless 30 years their senior!!!!
My associate across the room married someone in order to import her from Haiti, that was a straightforward cash transaction, no pretence involved. Subsequently he married an American who was about to be deported; in that case there was no money involved just, er, acts. |

Ahem. As the importer of an internet babe not quite 30 years my junior I'm quite sure she didn't do it specifically to get into Canada; our deal was a British passport in exchange for bookcases.

I suppose the point I was trying to get across is that there are many unscrupulous people out there, and whilst not agreeing with the legalities or otherwise of "marriages of convenience" if all involved parties know the score then fair enough whatever you need to do is not my business. Its the emotional side of things that I can't understand - I mean how would you feel if Mrs Dbd did indeed turn around and say "Sorry love - was only in it for the visa" (not that she would I hasten to add, just an eg) - how could you ever trust your own judgement again? |

Are you saying that the 18 year old beauty from Thailand really doesn't love me and is just using me to get in to Canada?
I'm devastated. :p |

My ex did something like this. He couldn't get into Canada without my qualifications. He swore in an affidavit upon divorce, that his motivation in not effing off earlier was Canadian residency and eventual citizenship. We had been married 16 years at that point - so they're not all marriages of convenience. Just piss-poor errors of judgement :curse: |

Yep and we have all been guilty of that at some stage - visa or no visa :o |
