It's the headache the morning after the night before that causes a few problems, but otherwise, no, not at all.
I'd suggest getting your mid-life crisis over and done with now - you'll be too busy living it large once you hit forty.

I must say, semi-seriously though, it's the men turning forty who seem to brood on this momentous occasion more than the women these days ....

That comment does seem to have some validity.

I don't understand why?

Forty, fifty and sixty all came and went without angst for me.

I turn 40 next year and am not particularly fussed - yet!!!! I was about turning 30 I remember. I think men find 30 a doddle and 40 tough.

I thought for years that it was fourty, as did my father. Then one day the subject cropped up. My father and I thought we were right (Well it's FOUR so it's FOURty, right?!) and my mother was wrong. Well we investigated it and we both learned a lesson that day.

I think it can go missed for a looong time if you make the assumption early on in life that forty is spelt how you would expect it to be spelt (fourty). I guess it's not something that comes up that often as people write '40' most of the time, so lot's of people miss it.

Although I use 'forty' now, it still looks and feels wrong. I need to think about it every time I write it.
