Foster Care in Canada
#1
Hi
As anyone had any experience of becoming a foster carer in Canada? We are experienced foster carers and may want to continue this at some point if our planned move becomes reality. I have researched this state to state, but wanted any feedback that anyone that has emigrated has actually gone on to do this, any feedback appreciated. Many thanks.

A neighbour of ours has foster children from Northern Quebec and Ontario. They are usually teenage girls who usually go back to their home village when they are 16. I know they use an agency.

Fostering is normally handled by the Child Protective Services or Family Services in each Province.
It may be worth your while to contact someone at the Canadian Foster Family Association for further information. (Links to Provincial Services with information on becoming a foster parent)

I have a relative who fosters, she has one long-term foster daughter who is amazing but has also had several short to medium term foster children who have been an absolute nightmare!

My brother and his wife did fostering for years for the Childrens Aide Society,
My son and dil also went through it as well.
It is alot of work, police checks, home checks and if house not up to specs then will cost you to get it up, then classes on a weekly basis for many weeks at the CAS. Numerous meetings in your home.
That is all I remember at the moment.
