I second the comments on bread - the cheaper the loaf (I'm talking pre-sliced & bagged variety especially white bread) the sweeter it tastes. I only eat wholemeal and my Canadian partner is used to eating some Meal Tyme brand which is awful, now we buy Dempsters wholegrain ones or country harvest, but I suspect my tastebuds have been Canadianised since being here. As for baked beans, I used to eat them a lot in the UK, and now I don't buy them at all, unless they are UK variety. I have tried to seek out a non-sweet version and have given up trying, so would rather do without. There is a place in Little India (Gerrard St East, Toronto) called BJ Supermarket that has a great range of indian products - useful if you are hankering after a curry, but I have found they stock a lot of imported goods from the UK. They had a special on Heinz Beans a few weeks ago - 6 cans for $8.99. They also stocked Lucozade.

Someone else mentioned The Chocolate Box on Donlands/O'Connor which is good, or consider Bullet on Danforth Avenue which is close to Broadview subway - they stock a lot of M&S stuff too.

Quite relevant to this thread is the very encouraging news that KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut have all filed for bankruptcy in Canada today.

A ray of hope for the future and may Timmies be next.

You'll live in hope and die of despair.

Dempsters Villaggio is very similar to UK white bread

Lucozade is available at Food Basics as is Irn Bru

Chicago Town Pizza - no idea, sorry!

Twiglets are available from "Brit" shops online or in store, depending on where you live.

The poster is young, a Canadian Citizen by descent, just starting out here - give him a break!

(Edited to reflect that I read his previous posts!)
Is Lucozade in any Food basics?

The BJ Supermarket keeps little tins of a snack called Poppadums to which I am addicted. I only started going there because it was on the way home and I liked the name, now I'm condemned to visit fortnightly and to stop at the Madras Durber or the BBQ Hut each time. Don't venture into Little India if you haven't already, you'll get enslaved.

Eggs, toast, marmite is always a good combination. The saltiness of the marmite complimenting the egginess of the ... er ... egg.

I'm not sure - but it's available at my local one in Hamilton - in the "foreign foods" section, together with Tetley Tea Bags, Ribena, Irn Bru, Homepride cook-in sauces, Ovaltine, Bird's Custard etc. They also sell proper made in England McVitae's Digestives (yay!), Cadbury's Chocolate Buttons, Marmite, Roses Lime Cordial, Pataks sauces and etc.

Now if only they sold Extra Thick double cream (not in a jar) - if anyone knows where there is some in the Hamilton area please let me know! I bought it once 3 years ago in Fortino's (Limeridge) and have never seen it since.

Scouring the numerous food related threads on the forum over the past few months (as there are a few things I will miss ... cadbury chocolate, irn bru etc) there is a one food item not mentioned that is an almost daily additive to my food stuffs!!!

Lea and Perins Worcestershire sauce ... I am making a guess that this is not readily available?? Moving to the TO area - probably Oakville somewhere come July time ...

Sounds like you'll need to make a special sauce compartment in your suitcase.

Available everywhere, all supermakets, most convenience stores. It's a critical ingredient in that most Canadian of drinks, the Bloody Caesar.
