Flying via Canada
#1
Can anybody tell me if flights in and out of Canada are being disrupted by security 'concerns' as much as in the US?
We were thinking of flying to Oz via LA (to get the extra baggage allowance) but have decided to avoid the US. Would we get the 2 pieces per person (max 32kg per bag) quota if we travelled via CAnada? And (finally....) does anyone have any useful tips about airlines/routes for UK-Canada-Brisbane?
Happy New Year to all.

Try one of the travel websites like travelocity or expedia, there should be a lot of route information available there, or you could also try posting in one of the travel newsgroups.

I am a little worried about your motivation! Why are you trying to avoid the additional security? To the uninitiated it sounds like you are trying to hide something. If it is time delays you are concerned about, is it not a quicker trip to go via the East?

Hi lesleys,
Just flew back from Canada on the 2nd Jan. I have to say that there were no real delays, I have to praise the professionalism of the way they handled the security, even down to everyone had to put their shoes through the x-ray machine.
I did see the new finger print scanners & cameras to record those coming/leaving on visas, when I asked the security lady she was not fully sure what the proceedure was, but that they were to be introduced in the next day or so.

toronto's pearson is pretty efficient although I belive its one of the busiest airports in canada.. there shouldn't be too many delays right now.. you could always do a search on flights on say expedia, come up with a good rate and then investigate baggage allowance on that airlines own website..
hope that helps..
