Default Flying Toronto to Comox

So I'm off for a bit of R&R on Vancouver Island ()...flights booked, nearly packed, ready to go. Just a little thing niggling me though. When looking for a cheap flight (which doesn't really exist! - cheapest I could find $758 but I suppose it is 3odd thousand miles away) I found that the journey there and back is a bit fuddled. So I fly from Hamilton (didn't know Hamilton HAD an airport!), stop over in Calgary, fly to Comox.

However, on the way back I have the same stop over but end up flying into Pearson. Huh? Why can't it be nice and convenient and pootle back to jolly old Hamilton (20 mins from where I live)? The plane would have to go back there eventually to start the process again, non? The thought of landing at Pearson at midnight on a Sunday and having to get a taxi fills me with joy (not).

Anyone reading this who is a pilot working for Westjet....couldn't you divert just this once please?

Very unlikely. That plane could end up going anywhere once it's back at Pearson. It's called 'interlining' (at least in the transit industry - the fancy airplane folk may call it something else).

There probably is a departure from Calgary to Hamilton, perhaps it is just that the connection can't be made with your incoming flight from Comox.

There is a flight from Comox to Calgary then from Calgary to Hamilton on a Sunday - call Westjet and ask them to change your routing. They are very accommodating.

Thanks siouxie, I'm coming back on a wednesday though. I'm waiting on the phone now (wait time approx 30 mins!). Is it worth holding?

Well, I tried and yes, I can do it....if I want to pay another $519. Not worth it really. Oh well! I wish I'd phoned westjet first off because they could maybe have helped me for less spondoolies.

I hate Pearson airport

Ummm.. you said you were flying back on a Sunday, so that is why I said that.

" The thought of landing at Pearson at midnight on a Sunday.."

Sorry you weren't able to change it without paying more, normally it's not that much though - my son's friend changed his the day before he flew out and it cost him an extra $80 (going to Vancouver instead of Kelowna).

Ah well, you will know next time!

Have a safe trip.
