Best,

Chipotle

Medised is not recommended for a thirteen week old baby flying: all meds have the effect of being a tad stronger when taken in a pressurised environment, Medised dehydrates as it contains Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride and Sodium Cyclamate. Babies dehydrate very quickly under normal circumstances. Just breast feed the baby going up and coming down (which is worse on their ears if they are bothered at all). I have flown with babies for years. One thing for the Mum - nice glass of wine/beer will relax her, relaxed Mum means more hind milk, which means a happier baby. Trace alcohol in breast milk is miniscule. Happy flying. Last time I flew was January, with five kids, the youngest being 14 months at the time.

Yes, babies need to be at least 3 months old to be able to take Medised. It says so in the label and the chemist reminds you every time you purchase it!

Not just that but Medised can also have the reverse effect on any child....A few yrs ago we tried it - actually because our son wasn't very well anyway(he has always been pretty good on planes!). When we bought it the pharmacist suggested we try it on him the night before we flew rather than just giving to him as we got on the plane....Very glad we took the advice as it made him totally hyperactive and we didn't get him to sleep until god knows when.....That said he was then tired on the flight anyway!!!!!

Seriously though the best advice I ever got was that most people on the flight will have their headphones on to watch the movies so if your little one cries they won't hear him OR they'll turn the volume up......They should all get some tolerance anyway.....
Good luck

We flew from Toronto to London when our little man was exactly 13 weeks, fed him during take off and landing and he more or less slept the whole way back. See if you can get a bulkhead seat that has a bassinet attachment we popped him in there with a blanket and he was very happy (although he only just fitted) - and we got to eat our meal too.

personally i think drugging babies unnecessarily is not advisable. if your baby's ears pop then they will probably scream which will help baby. having said that, it has never happened with our little guy, we have flown with him on several occasions. feeding/drinking is a good idea but you can't force them!

Last month I flew to Canada with my husband and children and I could not believe how good they were. They never once moaned or cried and they did not complain about their ears. My baby soon has his dummy and alittle juice and he was fine. There was one woman who made her two little girls take meds and they were sick most of the way

Once we got off the plane at Calgary everyone said how well behaved our children was - I had a hugh grin on my face for hours

Good Luck and try not to worry about the flight

Sorry, but seeing the title of this thread made me conjure up this type of picture in my mind

I don't speak from experince myself, but i've heard from friends with babies, that feeding baby on take off & landing is very helpful.

Hope the flight goes well

I asked my wife if she could indulge me when we fly out, but she was totally negative about it.

Well, if you dont ask....

Anyway, I would not be medicating a kid that age unless absolutely necessary, and not without a Drs advice. Once they are a bit older it might be an option, we used Gravol to calm a 4 year old down enough so she wasn't totally wired for the night flight, but for the daytime return she was fine without, as long as we kept here busy. Boredom is the real enemy. But in your case its not necessary or wise in my opinion to be unnecessarily drugging up a 14 week old kid.

Congratulations by the way...hope you are getting some sleep now.

cheers
Paul

ps he is just starting another growth spurt,so im glad its happening just now rather than two weeks time.....i will take the sleeplessness
