FlyGlobespn Safety
As some off you probably know, FlyGlobespan have went right down hill this year, and a number of there Canadain flights operated by Boeing 757s have had to make emergency landings due to problems with there engines.
I was reading a thread on another forum and cabin crew at FlyGlobespan refer to these aircraft as “Fireball 1†and “Fireball 2â€. Take a look for yourself at the link below, pretty unbelievable!!! http://www.cabincrew.com/ccnetwork/f....asp?TID=25720 |

Oh hell, we are flying globespan in October from Manchester to Toronto, I'm trying to convince myself all will be ok, time to iron out the bugs and all that. but the more I read the more I worry.

Re: FlyGlobespn Safety
Aren't they leased from IcelandAir? I saw one at EDI and it had an Icelandic call sign. There must be some maintenance obligation under the terms of the lease? I'm not going on one (ever ) just wondered how it worked.

I flew globespan end of July, good flight, no problems, same for my husband and daughter in August and my son just went back last wednesday no problems either way(Glasgow- Hamilton) I must admit I was worried after reading some of the reviews but was pleasantly surprised!
the trouble with all these airline review sites only the problems seem to get listed, tends to worry you a bit. Thanks Ian |
Re: FlyGlobespn Safety
Our flight from manchester to hamilton was fine, it was just on the way back that we got problems.
Delayed over 24hrs, stuck in a hotel with 3 young kids, no one to advised what was going on etc etc Staff nowhere to be seen, then a call to say the bus is outside to take us airport, when we got downstairs with 3 kids, there was loads waiting and the bus only took 15 at a time :curse: At the airport no staff, so they used someone elses, delayed again and left in airport. Paid for better class and actually got standard, meals where  and letter sent, but no response :curse: To say i would never fly again with them is an understatement, i was happy to get off the plane and away from them. We flew transat earlier in the year and was impressed. If you are taking kids, make sure you take them some stuff, as the flight doesnt give kids the free bags like others do. Take blankets and pillows as they dont supply them, like the others do. I really hope that you have a trouble free flight - good luck Gill :thumbsup: |
Re: FlyGlobespn Safety
My OH just got back from his recce to London. He flew with Canadian Affair/Thomas Cook, Manchester to Toronto. £250 return. No problems either way but it seems Thomas Cook dont fly there over winter which is a shame as legroom was good, meals good, films pretty recent and apart from a couple of tits sitting behind him overall the flights were good. He should know, he's ex-crew!
I think with low cost airlines it's the luck of the draw on the day. They all have good days and they all have bad days, some more than others it seems. Maybe someone can correct me on this but if an airlines maintenance and safety record concern the CAA they ban them from EU airspace. Have a gander at this list, you'll notice a definate pattern ;) : http://ec.europa.eu/transport/air-ban/pdf/list_en.pdf You'll be fine, have a good flight. I'd suggest taking some entertaiment in case you are hit with a delay. Mandi. |
Re: FlyGlobespn Safety
To anyones whos already booked with them, like others said, just take some entertainment etc, basicly be prepared for a long delay:thumbdown:
To anyone who's not yet booked, dont! Fly with Zoom, Air Transat or Thomas Cook/Canadian affiar. Apparently next year GSM will only have a few long haul routes, they are definetly dropping Boston, New York, Cape Town, Johanesburg and more look set to follow. |
Re: FlyGlobespn Safety
Thats fine, but they are cheap.
You can go for a company that provides all the extras and has a record for less delays, but this is because they don't fly to capacity and so they charge more. Like many things in life, you get what you pay for. Personally, I prefer the no-frills flight and save my cash for enjoying myself when I get there. Each to their own preference. |
Re: FlyGlobespn Safety
Zoom Airlines are often cheaper than FlyGlobespan, and aswel as all the pluses on the flight and ontime preformance, they actualy fly to Toronto, and not Hamilton.

In particular, I've always enjoyed the food: if there's one type of meal that benefits from being cooked in advance and kept warm or reheated, it's a curry! I'm not sure I'd recommend Air India if you're travelling with children, though, if only because the meals might be a bit spicy for a young Western palate. |
Re: FlyGlobespn Safety
We will be travelling with children, they are both keen on spicy food so that will be good! Could you tell me anything about the onboard entertainment for the kids (they'll be 11 and 12)? I can't seem to get much info about this from their website
Thanks |
