FlyGlobespn Safety

As some off you probably know, FlyGlobespan have went right down hill this year, and a number of there Canadain flights operated by Boeing 757s have had to make emergency landings due to problems with there engines.

I was reading a thread on another forum and cabin crew at FlyGlobespan refer to these aircraft as “Fireball 1” and “Fireball 2”.

Take a look for yourself at the link below, pretty unbelievable!!!

I flew globespan end of July, good flight, no problems, same for my husband and daughter in August and my son just went back last wednesday no problems either way(Glasgow- Hamilton) I must admit I was worried after reading some of the reviews but was pleasantly surprised!

Aren't they leased from IcelandAir? I saw one at EDI and it had an Icelandic call sign. There must be some maintenance obligation under the terms of the lease? I'm not going on one (ever ) just wondered how it worked.

cheers that reassures me a bit.

the trouble with all these airline review sites only the problems seem to get listed, tends to worry you a bit.

Thanks

Re: FlyGlobespn Safety

Our flight from manchester to hamilton was fine, it was just on the way back that we got problems.

Delayed over 24hrs, stuck in a hotel with 3 young kids, no one to advised what was going on etc etc
Staff nowhere to be seen, then a call to say the bus is outside to take us airport, when we got downstairs with 3 kids, there was loads waiting and the bus only took 15 at a time :curse:
At the airport no staff, so they used someone elses, delayed again and left in airport.

Paid for better class and actually got standard, meals where  and letter sent, but no response :curse:

To say i would never fly again with them is an understatement, i was happy to get off the plane and away from them.

We flew transat earlier in the year and was impressed.

If you are taking kids, make sure you take them some stuff, as the flight doesnt give kids the free bags like others do.
Take blankets and pillows as they dont supply them, like the others do.

I really hope that you have a trouble free flight - good luck

Gill :thumbsup::thumbsup:

My OH just got back from his recce to London. He flew with Canadian Affair/Thomas Cook, Manchester to Toronto. £250 return. No problems either way but it seems Thomas Cook dont fly there over winter which is a shame as legroom was good, meals good, films pretty recent and apart from a couple of tits sitting behind him overall the flights were good. He should know, he's ex-crew!

I think with low cost airlines it's the luck of the draw on the day. They all have good days and they all have bad days, some more than others it seems.

Maybe someone can correct me on this but if an airlines maintenance and safety record concern the CAA they ban them from EU airspace. Have a gander at this list, you'll notice a definate pattern ;) :

You'll be fine, have a good flight. I'd suggest taking some entertaiment in case you are hit with a delay.

Mandi.

Re: FlyGlobespn Safety

To anyones whos already booked with them, like others said, just take some entertainment etc, basicly be prepared for a long delay:thumbdown:

To anyone who's not yet booked, dont! Fly with Zoom, Air Transat or Thomas Cook/Canadian affiar.

Apparently next year GSM will only have a few long haul routes, they are definetly dropping Boston, New York, Cape Town, Johanesburg and more look set to follow.

Re: FlyGlobespn Safety

Thats fine, but they are cheap.

You can go for a company that provides all the extras and has a record for less delays, but this is because they don't fly to capacity and so they charge more.

Like many things in life, you get what you pay for.

Personally, I prefer the no-frills flight and save my cash for enjoying myself when I get there. Each to their own preference.

Re: FlyGlobespn Safety

Zoom Airlines are often cheaper than FlyGlobespan, and aswel as all the pluses on the flight and ontime preformance, they actualy fly to Toronto, and not Hamilton.

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone had ever used air india, I did a search on travelsupermarket for some flights next year and they came out the cheapest?

I've flown Air India a couple of times, from the UK to India (I work for an Indian company, so it's company policy to "fly the flag"). I have always had excellent service, which may or may not be connected to the fact that the company gives the airline a tremendous amount of business... :)

In particular, I've always enjoyed the food: if there's one type of meal that benefits from being cooked in advance and kept warm or reheated, it's a curry!

I'm not sure I'd recommend Air India if you're travelling with children, though, if only because the meals might be a bit spicy for a young Western palate.

We will be travelling with children, they are both keen on spicy food so that will be good! Could you tell me anything about the onboard entertainment for the kids (they'll be 11 and 12)? I can't seem to get much info about this from their website
Thanks

depends on the aircraft, but more often than not I've had seatback screens with a choice of a few Hollywood or Bollywood releases. I didn't pay any attention to the kids' options, I'm afraid, but I assume there were some...

Last time I flew zoom I had 15 hour delay outbound and 5 hour delay coming back. People who flew regularly seemed to think that this was a regular occurrance

Just got back this morning from London,On.

We(2 adults,2 kids 14 & 8) flew with Globespan from Liverpool to Hamilton. No complaints, flight out delayed by 50mins(it left Stanstead late),flight home left on time and we got into Liverpool 30mins earlier than expected.
Will fly into Hamilton again next year,no probs.Baggage was on the carousel nice and quick, picked the rental up from National,no problems, plus its also closer for us heading out to London(403 west only 15mins away).
Meals were ok,cabin crew were polite and helpful but if you've got youngish kids, make sure you take stuff for them to do!
The £300 we saved, paid for the car rental for the 2 weeks we were there.

hi

Have a look at the cabin crew forum I posted a link too, crew have made a number of comments saying management have forced them into breaking CAA laws, and pilots have been forced, again by senior management, to alter there log books to keep the CAA Happy.

Just want to make clear, its not me saying this, it’s the cabin crew employed by FlyGlobespan.

Got our flights booked with flyglobespan for October and we are now getting really worried after reading this thread :unsure::unsure:

Tried last night to cancel our flights but was told it would cost us £714 of the £896 we have paid so it's not really an option :curse:

you should tell them you have contacted the research team at Channel 4's Watchdog and that they have expressed "considerable interest" in the story, especially owing to the safety issues

Thats not a bad idea, and I'm sure if the press was to get there hands on this info there would be ALOT of bad publicity for FlyGlobespan.

Air Transat will be using a specially configured Skyservice 757 on their route to Edinburgh this summer.:)

Re: FlyGlobespn Safety

hi Sarah2 i travelled air india to mumbai from heathrow 3 weeks ago. i found they were the cheapest flight for the dates i required. i will say however that the majority of there aircraft are old with poor inflight entertainment, on most aircraft there are only older style suspended tv's which are hard to view. the films are as said before mainly bollywood and the food is curry.

having said this it is an indian airline so curries and bollywood are to be expected after all! all in all i had a pleasent return flight as they are hardly ever full and nearly every passenger had 3 seats to themselves!

my father on the other hand took the same flight a week earlier and missed his connection due to the plane being diverted. this was due to the fact not enough seats had been filled for his flight so they filled the plane with passengers heading to another destination!

he was not impressed....
