Default Flights and refunds

LOL .. i wonder how many people thought oh crap .. not more bad news, no, these are not related.

I have 2 questions

1 - I called Air Canada today to ask when will they send out the labels that you put on your luggage .. they told me that they dont do that and you just check in your luggage .. im sorry but if noone knows the destination of my luggage and it goes missing .. then how will it be returned to me .. Is this normal, granted i havent flown in 6 years but wouldnt it be wise to have labels on luggage.

and lastly - i overpaid the PR fees by $990 (nice when i get it back) Mississauga are aware of the overpayment and wrote to tell me that London will send us the refund .. i have emailed them to say that im leaving on the
8th Dec so dont send the payment to our UK address after that date and instead send to hubby and gave his address .. Has anyone else received a refund from them and roughly how long did it take?

Thank you ever so much.

Sarah

When you check in your bags the check in agent will print and attach a bar coded tag with your details and the routing on it. It is up to the passenger to put address information on the bag. You can either use the tie-on tags at the check in desk or your own.

I did, Glad all okay

Sorry cannot help re refunds, I'm still waiting for them to take my money

Re labels, they do need to be labelled, last time we flew, they had some at the check in desk, or you an always get some yourself from the post office, perhaps they are cutting costs by not sending them

Good luck

It is unwise to advertise your address on the outside of your luggage. Stick a label on the inside of the lid. If it does go AWOL, the airline can very easily open any suitcase.

Most tags are the fold over tab type to hide the address from prying eyes. If a bag goes AWOL without a visible tag it could be a while (if at all) before anyone opens the bag to see if there is any ownership info inside. If anyone sees your address and it is where you are headed to, they have to get there before you to rob the joint. Always best to only put where you are going to on the outbound journey, not the home address until you are on the way back.

That's a reasonable point.

The only details I ever put on are contact details for friends/relatives (if I'm going on vacation). On business trips, I put one of my business cards in the tag. I can be traced but not easily found.

Since e-tickets came about airlines do not send out baggage tags any more but most have them at check in. I always have 3 or 4 tags on my bag and at least one inside (worked for an airline in baggage so have seen what goes on!!!!!!) Definitley get your destination on/in your bag so if the worst happens you can be reunited with it
