Default Flights

Hi all

Just idly looking at flights for a hopeful emigration next year and I have 2 questions.
1. If we intend to live near Vancouver do we have to land at YVR or can we land anywhere in Canada on a cheaper, indirect flight, eg Westjet LGW - YVR via Calgary? Would having YYC as our first port of call be an issue?
2. I’m finding that return flights are considerably cheaper than one way flights, has anyone else found this and is it an issue to book a return and not take the return flight?

Thanks

1. You can "land" wherever you want, but if you "land" in Quebec, you should have proof of onward transportation.
2/ Nothing stopping you from not using the return portion of your flight.

If you are asking regarding your "landing trip" for PR, you should be allowed to fly to any destination in Canada. However, some people report issues with Quebec so avoid any airport there if you wish to avoid such issues.

We purchased return flights when we landed for exactly the reason you have outlined above. It is not an issue.

If not staying over in your first port of landing, make sure that you allow sufficient time between the UK plane landing and the domestic flight leaving ................. a minimum of 3-4 hours has been mentioned in previous posts, depending on time and date of arrival.

If you want cheap one-way flights, try looking at either WestJet or, dare I say it, at WOW if you fancy a stop-over in Iceland. Both low-cost carriers that charge by the sector.

Nothing stopping it and you can even ask the airline for a refund on this portion of the ticket. However, you often only get the taxes back.

To get more than the taxes back you need to purchase a flexible fare, not the discounted one (one that allows changes / refunds) - which are not the cheapest option, so it may work out cheaper to just buy the discounted one and not worry about anything more than the taxes being refunded! Good point though!
