Default Flight in from uk, out to US...

Hi everyone,

Hopefully quite a simple one for you........

Myself,my partner and our 1 yr old little girl have been accepted as interns at a eco village on vancouver island.
The internship last 7 months and we have been asked to stay longer. The eco village is sending us an acceptance letter to this effect.

The internship starts on 13th april, not enough time to process our study visa, which is 8 weeks at least.
We have been told we can come in on a tourist visa and then pick up the study visa and carry seamlessly on........

We want to move to canada permanently (I am a rope access tech and she is an engineer, so at least one of us will get a work visa after the internship, probably me)

Can you tell us if:

1. When we come in to start with if we do not have a return flight to the UK, but do have a flight within the 6 months to the US (a flight we have no intention of catching as our study visa will have been processed by then..)
will we have a problem?

2. Will we have to leave canada to switch from tourist to study visa?

3. Any other handy tips.....

Hope i made that clear enough, thanks for your help in advance
