Yep. Company has a private plan for all employees starting from first day of employment

Have to be carefull with that though as the regular work plans only cover in addition to what the province pays out, so in Ontario you have to make sure you have additional coverage at first as OHIP wont cover you for three months. I guess you are in AB, I dont know how the alberta system works, but you might want to look into it and make sure that your employer has you covered as a newcommer and not just on the genereric supplemental healthcare plan that every employee gets if the system works the same way there.

And just to proove that things are never as easy as they seem. The Bay told me never to darken their door again when I tried to get one of their cards yesterday.

Don't worry, they did you a favour. If you think Visa and MasterCard are extorsion rackets, just check out the interest rates that the department stores' cards charge.
