If all you need is BP, walk into Drug Store, most have those BP Machines, takes a couple of minutes.

Unfortunately I need a written report (life insurance).

Our life insurer sent an RN round to do a physical to make sure we didnt cheat a report. (Thats Clarica FWIW)


If thats not going to happen have you tried contacting the local health unit?

The difficulty with this one is that the insurance company is in the UK. It didn't want to cover me in the first place but my (UK) employer prevailed in the argument. I had a medical in the UK last October. It was all fine except for iffy pulse/BP results, which I am sure were stress-related. I was asked to get those bits checked again. I didn't do it. The insurance company is now shouting at my boss who, in turn, is shouting at me. And she can shout.

As far as I can make out, the insurance company does not mind all that much if I have a heart condition, so long as it's being treated. All I have to do is find a doctor...............

I'm starting to sound rather pathetic.

Our walk-in-clinic has closed down; the doctors were not interested to work there, so we must use the ER.
Then there is the day clinic, you must phone the morning if you need to see a doctor for that day, you can't phone and make an appointment for the next day. If you are lucky you can see the doctor the same day, otherwise try the next day. If they are fully booked for that, the day clinic closes the phone lines until the next day.

In our town (Peterborough, Ontario) there are 16000 people on a waiting list for a GP.

I guess that if Clarica hire a subcontractor firm to go around doing medicals locally as necessary, then there might well be a similar service available in your area? Dont know how you would find / hire them, but its maybe worth exploring the option.

Failing that why not just use the chc list of DMPs in Canada and have them do a medical for money on you...you know they will take money to do a medical, its just a question of who they are doing it for.

De nada my arse. Your lateral thinking got my lateral thinking going and that got me round the corner to the depanneur. I'd forgotten about a girl who works there part-time. She's local and a trainee nurse; she knows the score. I know where I'm headed second thing tomorrow morning.

I have searched far and low for a GP and even my CLSC cant help me . I have resorted to begging a doctor in the hospital where I work to renew my sons medication which is risky for him as he doesnt even know the child. So he cant legally change the medication per say, just continue what he already has but this cant go on forever.........It is appauling and very worrying. Have you called your local CLSC? If they cant help , I dont know where you can turn. The Quebec doctors are all going south of the border or up North where they get the Northern Bonus. I really am very worried.

sorry, didnt realize you need a BP reading.Why dont you go to your local pharmacist? they will happily do it for you and sign your form. Now, no ciggies atleast 15 minutes before your reading now!

We haven't found a doctor accepting patients yet, the walk in clinics usually have a several long hour wait.

I just dont go to the doctor, I dont have time to wait 3-4 hours for a clinic doctor who likely wont give you more then a minute or 2 to discuss anything.

When we lived in BC, we just went across the border and paid cash to see a doctor, was usually about 100 bucks but worth it in time savings alone.

If you cannot find a GP, how do women arrange routine stuff like smears and mammograms?

Health unit and urgent care clinics can take care of this...ie;

Typically a GP will organise it, but a OB/GYN will do it, so worst case try and go straight to an OB.
