Yep....i am a 'local' in the futures and options markets. Trade exchange based products though, no OTC stuff.

Who did you work for? I started off Back Office with Merrills, moving up to middle office and then broking/trading before i left after 6 years service. Been self employed since, although i did also trade for a hedge fund for most of 2006 and 2007.

Hi Chris,

You worked for ML? Must have been pretty cool where you in the docklands? Do you day trade now?

Thanks very much for getting back to me. At the moment I work for royal bank of scotland have been here the best part of 4 years. Before that I worked for pioneer alternative investment who are a hedge fund in London for 3 months (was poached out by rbs) and before that was 2 years working for Microsoft. While working for RBS I spent some time in Chicago working for greenwich capital markets (owned by rbs) the cme is an interesting place hu? First time I had seen an open cry floor. Do you happen to know of any head hunters in GTA whould circle my cv? I know these sort of roles aren't normally advertised. I would come with good references from Chicago and London. One of our top brass has said he will have a word with Scotia bank as they are our broker in Canada but he is a busy guy so I don't want to pin my hopes.

Thanks for your help!

Tom,

The Merrill office when i was there was Moorgate, but i spent a lot of my time working on the LIFFE floor the open outcry floor in London (like CME), that closed in 2000 with everything going on screen.

I do still trade but i operate from my own basement, i have an office kitted out there with everything i need. As you will see from my signature we are in Wasaga Beach. I do know a couple of guys in the same line of work down in Oakville. There are a number of Futures arcades in Montreal, one of which my good buddy trades with and it is rumoured they will be opening a GTA office soon. I have worked for myself for 8 years and although i traded for a fund recently, that was due to contacts with my backers in London. I have no contact at all with head-hunters in GTA. If you have a look at www.elitetrader.com they have a hook up section, a group of traders in Toronto have a monthly meet up, i keep meaning to get down there and meet some people but it is a 90 minute drive and i can't find the time. I would recommend introducing yourself to the guys on there.

The other option would be find a Bloomberg terminal, they have a job vacancy selection on there, search for Toronto.

Hope that helps

Chris

Ahh the BBG terminal I have one sitting here too why didnt I think of that! I'll check out the elite group it could be nice just to meet up with a few guys while over there for a chat. Moorgate hu it still looks the same i'm based next door to Liverpool st on Bishopsgate easy enough commute but just can;t wait to get out to Canada.

Thats cool about the basement office might need to get something similar going in my place I guess its how much guts you have going on. If you are backing yourself that is.

Anyway thanks for the great info Chris you have been a load of help.

One company you might like to try is Algorithmics - think they are based in Toronto. Know them from a previous live in the City. They specialise in risk managment software for capital markets etc.

Hope this helps.

Not sure if you trade but i have massive limits, 2000 bunds, 150 dax, and loads of others. Therefore i need a lot in backing, i have a hell of a lot of my own money on deposit aswell. As a guide i have a news squawk (www.ransquawk.com), technical levels (www.ganncorner.com), my trading system (Trading Technologies), chartign software (cqg) and numerous other bits and bobs and that runs to close to £2000 per month.
