Finally got c'ship test letter
The good news: Got the letter yesterday for my citizenship test/interview in Vancouver.
The bad news: I'm in Toronto that day. eff. eff. eff. eff. eff. effing. eff eff. |
Re: Finally got c'ship test letter
How is that possible, you applied after me...
|
Re: Finally got c'ship test letter
Which office is yours at? Mine is in Vancouver.
|
Re: Finally got c'ship test letter
Calgary, but someone else posted from Okotoks that they applied on April 11th last year and took the test on May 5th this year. I applied on April 30th last year (they received it on May 2nd).
When did you say you applied again? You'd think that Vancouver would be slower, not faster. |

Has anyone missed their first test date? The guy I spoke to said they would automatically note I hadn't turned up and then send out another letter for another time, but who knows how long that will take. And of course the vancouver office has no phone. ha ha. |

Re: Finally got c'ship test letter
They told me it wasn't a problem to reschedule. I guess that was a lie.

Re: Finally got c'ship test letter
You know I really should check my mailbox before replying to threads like this,
The letter says I'm scheduled to take the test on June 28th at 8am. Crazy we got our letters within a day of each other, I blame the strike. 8am? How much money do you want to bet I sit there for 1-2 hours before I take the test? |
Re: Finally got c'ship test letter
mine said 8:16 am which seems weirdly specific

I rang the call centre Monday to enquire whether I'd missed a letter or something and they said 'no, we haven't invited you to a second test yet'. Gotta love CIC and processing times.;) |

I applied sometime back last year and got invited for the test on March 10th when I was in Washington DC on business. Rang the 1888 number and as per your experience, they told me there was no official way to reschedule. You just miss the test and eventually they ask you back again. Daft system if you ask me and since St. John's is a small place and the CIC office is not far away from work, I called in there and explained that I wouldn't be able to make it. They seemed pleased that I'd taken the trouble, either than or they were just humouring me.

When did you say you applied again? You'd think that Vancouver would be slower, not faster. Did the test, and last week received letter confirming Ceremony on June 23rd at 8am. Yes 8am. What kind of time is that for a ceremony....? |
Re: Finally got c'ship test letter
I'll be shocked if it's at 8am, they said that for my PR card renewal and I was there for ages before I got it.
|
Re: Finally got c'ship test letter
We did the test and ceremony just last week. Like you we couldn't attend the first test in Edmonton at the end of February this year. So the second test for us took just 3 months.

Yes. Unfortunately it's for the wedding of my daughter's godmother and one of my husband's oldest and dearest friends. He is the MC at their wedding. Also, we booked on points so we would be dinged for that. We are going to see if we can change flights don't know how gross our choices are yet.

Get them to call it off then. The wedding can be postponed and rebooked some time this century, unlike your invite to do the quiz. Alternatively have a big fall out with family days before and make up with them days after. Well that's my approach.

How much money do you want to bet I sit there for 1-2 hours before I take the test? You will have to be there for 8am, but most likely wont start the test until nearer 9am as you have to line up, give your info and passports, and they ask questions before they let you in to sit the test. Its only once everyone in the lineup is done and dusted, do they start the test. Good luck!!! |
Re: Finally got c'ship test letter
What I want to know is which version of Discover Canada I'm going to be tested on, the one they sent me or the current one? The current one has more stuff about the War of 1812 and Quebec in it.
Anyway, not worried about it, I know the Lt Gov is Donald Ethell. The best thing I think anyone who moves to Canada can do to learn the history of the country is to watch: Canada: A People's History, which you can get from the CBC shop for $120 for the whole series. That sounds like a lot but you definitely get your money's worth. Best CBC show I've ever watched. |
