Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum and already from reading everybody elses threads I've gained a little bit more knowledge. I'm after a little bit of advice.
My family and I applied for Permanent Residency in Canada 3 and a half years ago. We had our medicals in December 2009 and 2 weeks ago we sent out passports off after recieving a letter saying the High Commission were finally ready to issue our visa's
We're planning on moving to the Vancouver area and are going on holiday there at the end of May to try and look for places to live, jobs etc....
Now for the problem. I've now been engaged for 2 years and my fiance really wants to come to Canada with me and family, but didn't want to apply for visa's or anything until we got confirmation of acceptance. Now this has come and we are completely unsure of what to do or who to turn to for help. We have not been living together in this time as we have been saving up for our wedding.
Any ideas on what to do next?

Think about getting married as soon as you have landed and have PR status.

If marriage isn't an option then really only other option is for him to get a visa in his own right. ie find employer and obtain TWP etc

Would BUNAC be an option, at least as a short-term solution? http://www.bunac.org/uk/workcanada/ You can work and live in Canada for 1 year, provided you are young enough.
I don't know enough about it to be of any more use though.

Thanks for the replies! I sort of thought he would probably have to get a TWP to come with me, he is an electrician by trade so hopefully he won't have much of a problem.
Does anybody know whether when we do get married, will he automatically become a PR and be allowed to stay in Canada with me?
Thanks

You would have to sponsor him. He'd come over on a 6 month visitor visa, you get married then sponsor him although the whole process takes about 8 months if you do it from inside Canada and he won't be able to work until his pr is granted.
Is there also the stipulation that the sponsor has to have an income of greater than $46k in the year previous?

Marriage is the easiest option.
once married he can either move to Canada and you will have two options -
Outland - You apply as if you are out of Canada, even though you are in Canada. The process is quick and you can get it within 3-6 months.
Inland - You apply within Canada, this takes bit longer, anything upto a year.
As you are not a Canadian Citizen and you are a Permanent Resident, you will need to check the guidelines to see what the requirements are....

Hi
No there is no stipulation that the sponsor has an income. For spousal sponsorships, the spouse can't be an undischarged bankrupt or on public assistance (except for disability)
