Hi! I'm new! Anyway, I have a story, boy do we have a story.
Long story short, I met an amazing man in May, we got engaged, and he drove cross country for me. I mean.. from Massachusetts, to Washington. I now live in Victoria.
When he went to the border he said he wanted to know how to get a visa so he could live here. So.. now they won't let him in, not even to visit. He has to have a job for 6 months. Six months.
He lives in Bellingham at the moment. This winter we're going to Ohio to visit his family and then to Massachusetts to ssee my mum and brother.. etc.
I have my Greencard, from when I used to live in the US.. and if he absolutely cannot get into Canada, I guess I'll have to go back
The thing is, I don't know how possible that is.
I guess it should be said that I'm 18 and he's 25.
So! What I'm getting at is:
Is it likely that I'll be able to sponsor him while going to college and working part-time?
What will happen if we got married in the US?
Where should I file the paperwork?
Any ideas? Suggestions? Anything?
If nothing works, we'll have to be apart for six months, at least. He'll be staying in Ohio after Christmas.
If you need to know anything else let me know!

i would suggest looking here first under family class immigration (once you two have got married):
http://www.cic.gc.ca/
and be careful what's said to border officials when going to and from the US/Canada!

Ha ha, I'm REALLY careful at the border. I don't even say he's my fiance.

They won't let him in because they don't believe he would leave if his visitor status expires. i.e. they don't believe he would be a genuine visitor.
There is no fiancee type visa to enter Canada. He either needs to enter as a visitor (too late now) or using different type of visa. His choices would be:
work permit: need HRDC verified job offer
Student permit: needs to attend Canadian institution
Permanent Resident (skilled worker): Needs to meet minimum points score so will need probably to have a degree and several years of skilled work experience and so forth.
Permanent Resident (family class): you need to get married. There is a conjugal category but it's very ill defined. While you might actually qualify if he can show he isn't allowed into Canada to cohabit. There is also commonlaw but you need to be cohabiting etc for at least 12 months. If you have an intent to get married anyway then do that.
How long is it since you last entered the US with your green card? if it was more than 6 months or so then you might have trouble re-entering the US.

I moved here in August. I don't use my Greencard anymore as it causes a BIG hassle at the border.
I visit him in Washington about once a month usuing my work permit for the US. They don't seem to care about that since it's expired.

I guess only the immigration people can say whether they will accept you as a sponsor... there are no hard and fast rules (that i know of)
good luck!
