My friend wants a quick weekend away mid March just to escape Calgary.
He is thinking about Fernie, but I am afraid I have never been, I recommended the Okanagen / Kelowna etc.
Does anybody have any suggestions?
Many thanks.

I'm stuck behind an RV, on Highway 3, in AB.
I'm stuck behind an RV, and that isn't good for me,
Because I need to get to Fernie,
So I can pee.
Yes, unfortunately,
I'm stuck behind an RV on Highway 3 in AB.
And there's a guy with a boat,
Looking for somewhere to float,
But as for me,
I'm stuck behind an RV on Highway 3 in AB.
And now I'm crossing from AB into BC,
But I'm still stuck behind an RV,
On Highway 3.
Lot of people go to Fernie,
Most of them to ski,
But as for me,
I'm stuck behind an RV on Highway 3 in BC.
Finally got past the RV, I'm so happy,
Now I get to pee,
No, wait, now I'm stuck behind a f***ing semi.
On Highway 3 in BC.
A career in country & western awaits me...

Definitely! I'm biased because I've lived there but it is lovely, very relaxed and great terrain if you ski/board. The Oakangan/Kelowna is a fair old drive from Calgary for a quick weekend break. Hope your friend has fun wherever he ends up!

Recommended - My family and I moved here 20 months ago - Lots to do -
The ski hill will still be open, cross country skiing , cat skiing , hiking , dogsledding, snowmobiling, spas , restaraunts , bars , shops friendly atmosphere - first weekend in march is a festival weekend too - Yes the highway can be busy - we get invaded by our fellow neighbours especially when there is snow in the forecast on a weekend but its a reasonable 3 hr drive - i think Kelowna could be more like 5 - Come to Fernie - but then i'm biased

Agreed. I'd allow at least 8 hours from Calgary to the Okanagen / Kelowna area. Another thing to take into account this time of year - Controlled avalanche blasting in the Rogers Pass. I've been held up there for over an hour & half in the past whilst this was carried out.
