Definitely the drink thing. Why do you think the Vodka belt is called the vodka belt? Get some vodka and do what everyone else does - drink the winter away.

Get a fancy man.

I think that's what they're called in Nova Scotia.

Not sure there are any fancy men though.

They tend to look like this:

Though they do have their uses: they could teach you horticulture.

If it is at all financially doable, I'd suggest getting a second car. Being stuck in the house with no means of transport would drive me (or my wife) up the wall. If it's not financially doable perhaps you could drive the OH to work and pick him up so that you have use of the car during the day?

You could buy a monkey instead then. The kids would pay $10 to play with it for 5 minutes !

I'm not sure a stranger touting "Here kiddies, come play with my hairy monkey" would go down well with the locals.

Anyone have some advice?

Hi Tracey,

Where in HRM are you? Is the OH able to get the bus to work so you can have the car? That is what we do and I work 3and a half days a week so I'm not stuck in all the time.
There are alot of us expats here if you ever want company :)

Is it possible that your blues are because after four months, and being excited about a new change, you are coming down to earth and it's all a bit of an anti climax? Also being stuck with a small child in a new place with no transport could make the sanest of us go nuts- it's nearly had me there on a couple of occasions!

I am really looking forward to coming to NB, but I know it's going to be harder than I think, and if I have a gloomy few days, I'm going to try to be nice to myself! It's scary finding new friends again. Have you thought of going to the local riding school for the adult sessions? Transport, of course, permitting. You could get the chance to meet some other women who are interested in horses? I'm not horsey, but a girl-friend of mine here started riding and has made a big network of friends, and her little kids are doing it too, so she's made friends with the mothers too, and it wasn't terribly expensive.

Hope you start to feel less gloomy, this time of year can be the pitts too!

With regards to working from home, my advice is to read the book 4HWW (four hour work week by Timothy Ferris). Such a good book for anyone looking to start their own business - gives you some great tips on creating a 'product' or information to sell online.
Just finished reading it and my Fiancee and I are already working on some new ventures!!
Seruously as soon as your done reading it you will have so many ideas and the confidence to get it off the ground trust me!!

All the best!
Stacey
