Default Favourite Canada DVDs

My list of favourite DVDs that I have purchased relating to Canada:

Canada a People's History - the BEST history series I have ever seen regardless of country of origin, even my wife who detests history loves it.

The Greatest Canadian - a copy of a similar program that was run in Britian, very interesting in that it also helps you understand what Canadians consider important (based on how they voted on their historical figures)

Over Canada/Over British Columbia - not much to learn here but nice and relaxing none-the-less.

has anyone else found any DVDs relating to Canada they have really enjoyed?

Some films about Canada or some aspect of Canada that I've enjoyed:

The Arrow - a film about jet fighters and other techie stuff that I'm not really interested in and so I was reluctant to see it but it is very good, opened my eyes a bit and I would especially recommend it to anyone interested in inventions, military history, enginneering, etc... and anyone living in Winnipeg .

Summit On Ice - For the sports fan and about the 1972 Canada vs Russia summit series. Great footage of real hockey players (unlike today's fluff ). Or if you're really keen; Canada's Team of The Century - it has full footage of all the games, not just highlights.

Through a Blue Lens - a disturbing, yet humanizing documentary about the Downtown Eastside in Vancouver. An update of the doc 'Beyond The Blue Lens' is planned for this year.

Rocks at Whiskey Trench - well really I recommend the whole series. About Kahnawake and the "Mohawk Crisis".

The Longest Road - an interesting look at the Trans Canada Highway. A sort of travelogue.

The Mushuau Innu: Surviving Canada - A film every 'proud' Canadian ought to see, IMO.

The Life and Times of Terry Fox - a top-notch human being.

Black Robe - good movie about the Jesuit Priests in Huronia; lots of blood and guts.... and beautful scenery.

waydowntown - I'd recommend, especially to anyone in or planning to move to Calgary.

Getting Started by Richard Condie - a Canadian animation that is not at all about Canada but I just love it and it just came into my head - if you've seen it, you might guess why.

Hockey analyst (can be controversial at times) and gobby the rest.

I don't mind him. Find him entertaining.

Wink Re: Favourite Canada DVDs

I recently introduced my British husband to the base humour that was "Strange Brew"...the plot etc. are a bit weak, but the Canadianisms are humourous at times.

Yes! Love them. Where did you run into Ricky, Julian and Bubbles?

Just last week, some channel in Britain started showing it. Paramount? or something?

I was sitting in front of them at game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Series 5 starts on the 17th April here.

As you can see Bubbles looks tanked. He is as funny in real life as on that show!

Awesome Iginla. I myself do not enjoy that show, and I can't understand why it's so popular...

I also agree that Don Cherry for x-mas or anytime for that matter is always a good thing

My dad used to be obsessed with Don Cherry - I think that's why he bugs me , but hey, I guess he has become somewhat of an icon, though my eardrums are still ringing - damn he yells! :scared:

Yep - TPB started last week on Paramount with repeats on Paramount 2 later on.
They're plugging it a fair bit, which I'm surprised about with teasers in the commercial breaks.

Only managed to catch a couple of episodes so far. One of them - "Mrs Johnson's Dog Gets *****ed Up"(?)- was one of the funniest things I've seen on telly in a long time.

My Canadian girlfriend didn't find it too funny - she said it was too close to real life!!!

Been trying to find season 1 on DVD, but on amazon.ca it's only available as a seasons 1 & 2 box set for CA$53... Might have a look around when I come to Calgary this summer...

"Trailer park boys"
I haven't see that one, but I am quite fond of 'Corner Gas'. When I was in Saskatchewan last year the lead actor was doing a comedy show on stage, and was pretty funny there too.
