Try this place - http://www.redflagdeals.com/deals/main.php/fooddrink/

Also you get flyers delivered from your postman and via the normal free papers, they always have deals on them.
Worth watching out for the deals, but i find eating out here cheaper anyway to the uk

No you're not. Just sensible. KFC ! Yuk. I can't imagine anything worse to let your kids eat.

What do Canadians eat and whats the beer like?

Oh, do they sell Mountain Dew Soda (thats what the wife has asked)

Thanks

Phil

You'll find plenty of places that will do good steaks and the beer is like any other beer unless you want to pay extra for imported english beer

Which is to say that the major Canadian brands of beer taste like Bud, Canada is not a place to which one would emigrate for the beer.

I'm in the "all the above are crap, wouldn't feed it to my chickens" camp. I literally can't feed McDonald's products to my autistic child as she fails to recognise it's being offered as food. You may as well offer her, or me come to that, a cardboard box as a McDonald's burger.

There are a couple of national junk food chains that offer reasonable meals the Keg and Boston Pizza come to mind.

Do you actually like anything about Canada? I cant speak for where u are from but in BC the micro breweries are excellent - as good as anything in the UK - although Molson is like nats piss.

thanks for your replies, the fast food stuff are not something my children eat on a regular basis, its a treat every now and then at weekends, everything in moderation, just comparing the kinds of deals families can get in the UK with Canada.

The Keg is an expensive way to have a bland steak experience IMHO. There are many local independent restaurants that can give you a better steak at a lower cost. Leastways in St John's there is so surely in the thriving metropolises of mainland Canada?

There are plenty of reasonable eating places, my children would rather go to A & W (McDonald's with better food!) I quite like the food theatres in the malls, as everyone can have what they want and you can all eat together. Although I find this doesn't work out as cost effective.

We have also found that some of the places you may only think of for breakfast, do very good steaks all day!

"Major Canadian Brands" excludes micro breweries.

I like Canada for the mediocrity, everyone who made it big has left so there's a nicely socialistic feeling of equal hopelessness among those who remain.

Blimey, I was trying to post something positive. Of course, it's not good, it's a national chain but it's less bad than the others mentioned. Swiss Chalet is another retailer of unethical pap that rises above the standard of most places that call their restaurants "outlets".

Sorry. Well done for the positive thoughts (& in reinforcement of that) agree on Swiss Chalet. If you're gonna eat battery farmed chicken (which you will if you buy it from a supermarket 9 times out of 10) then Swiss Chalet is a reasonable place to do so.

And healthier than Mary Browns.

Now I loves Mary Browns like I loves Marlboro. Neither of them of course should go into children or chickens.

My daughter worked in Swiss Chalet for a bit. After what she told us about the food, I will never eat there again, ever. I am, however, a life-long veggie, so I am not sure about the burger joint comparisons. My kids get A&W every other week, as a treat. They swear the burgers are the nicest. Mc D's makes me heave, I can't have the smell in the house.

I saw my recommendation of Montana's Cookhouse was greeted with tumbleweed. Does nobody have an opinion on it?

I prefer it to the fast food joints as it has a good selection of stuff that is more than wings, burgers and pizza. It's a fun place to go, and the service is normally pretty swift. Our kids (aged 22 and 17) like the crayonning on the tablecloth (as do we). We normally practise our cartoon techniques or play hangman while we wait ......
