Sorry for the confusion?! Yours not mine. Just stating that there are 4 distinct seasons. Fall is what North Americans call Autumn...I thought you knew that. Not being pedantic, just stating fact.

And to out-pedant your pedantry, Autumn is the more usual term in Canadian English; Fall is the US English term that has gained some currency in Canada. I would be very wary of quoting Wikipedia as a definitive source of facts

dogboy, I think you rather missed the point of Batty's reply to your original Fall/Autumn comment. I think what she meant is that you're more than welcome to refer to it as Autumn if it's all mellow and brown, but when it is as spectacular as the maples of Eastern Canada and the North-Eastern USA, somehow "Fall" is a more appropriate word.

I didn't miss the point all, please don't assume that. I agree that Wikipedia is no way a definative source, but in my experience out here all Canadians call Autumn fall.
Nice pix anyway kidda...!

Autumn seems to be holding its ground better here in the areas where "loyalists" settled from the US? Its probably a little less than 50:50? they are largely interchangeable here. "Fall" is just quicker to type and more likely to come out spelled correctly.

Why am I confused?? not me. I know perfectly wellwhat North americans call the seasons and I know what the British call them. I dont need an anal reference to wiki thank you.
I was trying to make the point, obviously too subtley for you that they have a different flavour to them.
ye gods have you no imagination?

Yeah yeah, mountains blah blah, very pretty, but as spectacles go leave the fall to those of us with maples

We get yellows but no oranges or reds to speak of.

I can openly admit, I have never seen such good colour leaves. How long do they stay that colour?
I feel a road trip is needed in Fall/autumn or whatever it's called - I don't care, it looks good!
Just got to convince the Wife though.............
