Hi everyone,
My husband swapped his driving license last week in Alberta. He said he had to have an eye test, which he passed.
Now he says it could have tested each eye separately as it was computerised. I am partially sighted in one eye. Does anyone know if this has any implications?
I do not have anything on my UK license even though my condition is declared and I passed the distance test at the time of my driving test.

Hi
Thanks for the reply. The problem I have cannot be rectified by glasses but it is just one eye. The other works perfectly.

Well anyways it should be fine, if you need though I can ask my moms friend, she works for AMA and does those tests and knows all about it.

Sorry I should clarify that there is not a lens on this earth that would enable my left eye to see lol

The reason is you look into two seperate chambers (one for the left and one for the right) and it randomly flashes lights and you have to say where the light is flashing and what colour it is in some cases...
You may still be able to drive though but i dont think you will pass the test i took.

Thanks for you replies. Most of it sounds reassuring but I suppose I will have to cross the bridge when I get to it. Maybe I won't just be able to "swap" and will have to take another test.
But you never know, I may be destined for the bus!!

Hi AB,
RE Eye test i have exactly the same problem my left eye is essentially non functioning (severe squint). When i did the test i was fine with the distance vision as both eyes are used but i couldnt see any lights with my left eye. The examiner couldnt believe it. I sort of cheated and had another go by shifting my head (you will know what i mean if you have the same affliction) and therefore passed. It gave me a scare as i thought she would fail me and like yourself no glasses in the world will correct the issue.

Looks like I may have to wing it lol. With both eyes I have near perfect vision and dont require glasses.
My problem is a lazy eye from birth. Well it was the 60's and not detected early enough. In my early teens it just stopped functioning.
My mother feels so guilty but the standards were not the same then.
My opthalmic guy has told me that if I ever lost the sight in my right eye, then maybe my left would "have" to start working again.
You can be sure that I had my children's eyes looked at properly lol.

Hi AB,
How was the eye test? what did they make you do? Just inquiring because I am in the same situation you were in and would like some advice about what to expect when I transfer my licence in Calgary.
Thanks

It was like a thing you rested your forehead on and they showed letters and lights for each eye separately.
I passed the test even though I could not read one letter on the screen with my left eye. I think I saw a couple of the lights though. My right eye was near perfect.
I did think I'd blown it but I was ok.
