Exporting vehicle and Household goods - Any Advice!

Hi

Has anyone had any experience exporting a vehicle from U.K along with households goods in one container to Canada?

Can households/tools items be place inside back of van?

What you need in place. How do you include in 'Goods to Follow' list when activating visas.

Please share your experiences and join me with any other relating issues.

Firstly, is the van more than 15 years old? If not, then you are not able to bring it over. www.riv.ca

I will also be doing this with my classic bmw that i have been woring on for the lat 5 years , but mine is a 1972 . how old is your van ? also it has to be registered in your name for over a year

also i think that if the vehicle is working then it needs to past a test when it gets there to make sure it is roadworthy . mind is stilll a project so as far as i know i won't have to do this till i try and put her on the road

Just to confirm, you cannot bring a vehicle that is less than 15 years old into Canada from the UK. If you wish to confirm this for yourself, Canadian Transport Authority Tel. No. 001 613 998 8616.

You cannot bring your vehicle if it's less than 15 years old.

I can confirm this is correct, although i cannot remember where i read this. It could have been in this forum but i don't recall seeing anybody mention this previous to this post i have just posted.

Hi

Our Diesel van is 7 years old, in VERY good working order and condition. Worth more us to bring than leave behind.

Only then need to buy one newer family vehicle. Also registered in our name for more than a year.

From what I can remember going around Canada we could get hold of diesel.

Do we just add this to our 'Goods to Follow' list or something else?

Hi

Very strange, like you read the opposite though. Surely a vehicle MORE than 15 years will chuck out more emissions than say a newer vehicle?

I have read mixed opinions. OK will have to investigate this further!

Protectionism for the North American car industry. If we could import decent cars at will then who would buy all the gas guzzling behemoths that the NA auto industry relies on?

This is starting to make me worried about my classic bmw, its not working at all and is a project of mine . i have spent far to much time and money on this car sell her . It also it has a lot off sentimental valve to me , both my farther and my farther in law have done a lot of work on here for me

My idea was to finnish her in Canada when i can

Just phone the number I put on my previous post and you will know 1 way or another. I was disappointed about not being able to bring my trailer but we have to play by Canada rules now, end of subject. If your car is '72 you should be okay, good luck.

Hi

I guess, God damn it!!

I'm sure the other guys BMW's vintage car will be fine!

I've seen Astra's in Calgary though!! OK not Vauxhall. Mind you I do particulary like the Big Cars, I'm not a sports car girlie, Hummer comes to mind! (with my don't care in the world hat on).

Thanks for all the advice.

Yes, you will see Astras around. They are badged as Saturn. However the Saturn brand and all vehicles including the Astra are no longer being sold in Canada.

Oh yes I remember now, did quite like the Saturn SUV's. Had all I wanted. Not sure what makes are considered decent or reliable brands, Dodge, Ford?

My fav is BMW X5!!! Maybe in a few years time :fingerscrossed:

There was once a thread "What's the Best Thing That's Happened to you in Canada?" or something along those lines, to which I responded in a fulsome manner. Too fulsome for some readers. I can't repeat it because, that memory has been supplanted by one involving the Matterhorn. In any case, to do so would invite another ban.

Perhaps a visit to a dictionary of urban slang would serve you well.

Hi

I think you're mistaken. I'm talking cars nothing else. Not suggesting anything else.

But I get your point!!

Perhaps El R you need to talk with, u should know how he replies by now!! Usually negative and single minded:rofl: Sometimes beneficial :p

I don't think soooo, why?

However, depends on the model, and the emissions are better than my smaller car now including more eco!

How much do you know?

I'm open to suggestions though!

I wonder how misleading emissions results are these days on new cars ?

What leads you to think they're misleading? If they're all measured in the same controlled way they're at least comparable to each other.

I confess to not knowing much about vehicles used only in a urban context. I do know that the BMW X5 is the most commonly repossessed vehicle in the UK and that it screams "poseur".

George Carlin used to have much to say re the SUV (he called them sun blockers) and the associated SUV consumer mentality:

"I'm telling you the people in this country -- every one is 50 pounds overweight. They are GARGANTUAN. And in the summertime -- God help us -- in the summertime they will all want to wear short pants. Jesus Lord, Protector of All That is Good and Holy, deliver me from fat people in short pants. They all got short pants, big bellies, fat thighs and dumb kids. Short pants, big bellies, fat thighs and dumb kids. Everyone of them has two dumbass kids with them. And the whole family's wearing t-shirts, and everyone of them has got the same t-shirt--"I'm with stupid." Apparently in this country the Stupids are an extended family. Everyone of them in the family has got on a backpack strapped to their back so they can carry around lots of stupid shit. And the reason they got to carry their stupid shit strapped to their back is because their hands have to remain at all times to hold food. Get that food up to the mouth where they can shovel in all the rest of the disgusting shit they ate that day. Another reason for the backpack is these people are gonna buy even more stupid shit. They don't have enough stupid shit at home. They just had a stupid shit sale, they gotta buy more. They're going to have to go out to the parking lot and stuff this stuff in their big, fat, ugly oversized SUV that's got plenty of room in it. Plenty of room in it for stupid shit. And lots of room left over for these big, fat, ugly mother****ers to get them home. Stopping, of course, for jelly rolls and fried dough. These people are efficient professional compulsive consumers. They practice at their art. It's their civic duty, consumption. It's the new national pastime. **** baseball. It's consumption. The only true lasting American value that's left--buying things. Buying things, people spending money they don't have on things they don't need. Money they don't have on things they don't need. So they can max out their credit cards and spend the rest of their lives paying 18 percent interest on something that costs $12.50 and they didn't like it when they got at home anyway.

Not too bright folks. Not too ****ing bright."

. . . and about the ultimate car cult;

I thought it screamed 'drug dealer or pimp' (not your kind of pimp). The NA equivalent would surely be a Cadillac Escalade?

That is true, but i wonder if they take into account the energy buliding the car in the first place . and what they don't say ! Also one think i don't understand how can car manufacturer say how eco a car is to the environment untill it has come to the end off its working life ?

My wife has a 1955 morris minor, still working . i would say this has to be more eco than a spanking new x5

Manufacturers don't, AFAIK, make any claims about whole of life enviro-friendliness. It'd be impossible to do so due to almost infinite variables about how the vehicle is used and maintained.

They're also not legally required to declare all the environmental impacts associated with the manufacturing process. The consumer makes their decision based on declared measurements like CO2, MPG, JD Power reliability/build quality reports etc etc.

Hi

That's quite right RICH!

BMW says to me class and well built.

OTHERS:

I'm no drug dealer, my o/h no pimp and certainly not fat, nor kids. I'm an average girl with average needs. I'm not high maintenance either, I have short nails, not painted! I cook, I clean, I do gardening, I look after kids, I decorate and quite happy to pull in where I can. That's no poseur!!

That's some peoples' perceptions what a BMW is but that's not how it is with all!!! You're letting your imagination run wild. You're watching too much 'Pimp My Ride' channels.

I like to see vintage cars, not for me but I enjoy to see them on the roads and their owners take pride. We drive average size cars in the U.K but I like big cars, being seated to a high position to oppose to low. It's just a preference.

If you other guys like the average 1.0 L to 2.0 L cars, electric, petrol or diesel, maybe cart & pony then that's fine by me.

Again I'm open to suggestions!! One thing may need a seven seater (hope not too much of a scary thought).

Angela
