Red face "Expats Districts" in Calgary

Know that this question has been asked before but I can't seem to find it within the forum so I will say sorry now to anyone who is tutting away to themselves

We are due to go out for a reckie visit to Calgary in 2 weeks time and plan to look around Calgary.

Are there any predominantly "expat" neighbourhoods in or around 40 minutes drive from downtown Calgary.

Chapparal in the SE seems to be "Little Britain". Got lost on the Estate one day and everyone I asked for directions was a Brit.

Not really, and I hope it never happens.

Yes, there are a few predominantly "expat" neighbourhoods in Calgary. Chinatown is one of them. Parts of the northeast quadrant have a higher concentration of East Indian Canadians and other visible minorities than the rest of Calgary has. (Canadians refer to Indians as East Indians to distinguish them from North American Indians or First Nations people.)

Invisible minorities, such as British expats, are not concentrated in any one neighbourhood.

On the other hand, if you look at the city from the point of view of a (North American) Indian, just about the whole place is an expat neighbourhood.

Oh I don't know...pot bellies, flip flops, intense sunburn, stretch marks, unsightly bulging man-made staticy clothing, miserable scowling looks, that 'worn down by the world' shabby, drawn, facial look, the wearing of the most recent shiny packaged Premiership soccer shirts, they're all fairly visible to me and very easy to avoid

What is the distinction between North American Indians and First Nation people? Are the First Nation, Canadian Indians, if you know what I mean?

Also I guess it depends if you live in a funky cosmopolitan diverse area...e.g. in Vancouver would most likely be called East Indians to differentiate, whereas in K-Town, an enclave of all thing white religious and middle class one would refer to First Nations as simply 'Indians' (in mixed company anyway, outside of that, other words would generally be used, as they are for all minorities). Peoples of the asian subcontinent number about three in total here hence no need to be too specific (from the whitey mans viewpoint anyway).

Silly me, I just assumed the OP meant "British Expats"!

I love the diversity of society here in NW Calgary where we live. My son thinks it's really cool that he goes to school with 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation Canadians who have origins as diverse as middle and far east, middle, eastern and western european, hispanic and (a few) african nations.

We haven't seen many canadian aboriginals really.
