Question exchanging driving license

i will be moving to redwater soon to join my wife, does anyone know if i can exchange a British hgv 1 (c+e) to the canadian equivalent i have been told i can only exchange for a car licence:

You will only be able to exchange for a car license. A one week course at truck school should be enough to get your Canadian Class 1. The biggest problem to overcome here is the gearbox fitted to trucks - very old fashioned and hard to get used too.

will look into cost etc when i go over in a couple of weeks to see my wife have heard that i cant do much till i have moved over and have a perm res card but will look into it

Before you can take the class 1 over here you have to take your airbrakes too, (I THINK its a class 3) nothing spectacular tho.

The crash gearboxes are still used here too moreso than in the UK.
