Etobicoke
evening.
So looking at TO communities where do you suggest. Etobicoke seems reasonable, looking for a good school for a 7 year old and a rental. Willing to pay up to 3k per month. Potentially doing a boomerang back from the uk. Hopefully Butch Cassidy or Mountain Girl will offer advice ..... lol
any advice BE members.

Re: Etobicoke
Remember .................... over here, there is not the huge differences in schools that you find in the UK.
Find the place to live first, then you look at the school that is the one for your area. But it is much more important to find the area you like.

Re: Etobicoke
Etobicoke is quite large and varied in affluence. The numbered streets to the south are a bit gritty but gentrifying nicely. There used to be a lot of by-the-hour motels along the lakeshore which have now been replaced by a concrete jungle of condos; safe enough but bland (safe except for that cop throwing his wife off the balcony). The area around IKEA is what you would expect of an area around IKEA. The middle bit, around Islington, is well off and the bit north of the 401, Rexdale, is dangerous slums. To the west, between the 427 and the compacted trash ski hill is older suburb, pleasant enough to drive through but I don't who lives there.
All in all, I'd say that the idea of moving to Etobicoke is a bit like the idea of moving to Croydon. Except I don't think anyone famous has come from Etobicoke.

What does Butch know about such things? I thought he lived north of where you do/did, but rurally.

The OP lives/used to live in Canada, for those that appear to have missed that!

Not sure if you want a house or condo, you should be able to get a 2 bed condo for around $3K. Townhouses where we are rent for around $5/6K pm.
There are children around here, including my 5 year old granddaughter. Sorry I can’t comment about local schools as she attends a school several miles away.

Oh yes, Rob Ford was my best ever death pool pick. Those pictures of Ford smoking crack were taken in the Rexdale arrondissement of Etobicoke.

We have a place in Mimico/Etobicoke...the postal address is Etobicoke. Lots of new and newish condos and town houses, it is on the lake, approx 5 miles from downtown TO. Easy access to The Gardner, there is also easy access to a street car service on Lake Shore Blvd.

Re: Etobicoke
That would be something of a nightmare of a commute if you were to do it everyday at regular office times.
