I will be entering Canada 2morrow.
Quick question: I have a one time entry stampped on my passport.
Can I enter canada and come back to US within a week or do I need to wait until I get the PR card in canada ?
Is it okay if I tell the officer in canada that I wud be leaving in a week and then coming back permanently in a month... as I need to get my project's end date which is in a month.
In which case how do I get my PR card?
thanx

You may go out but you'll have to wait for the PR card to be sent to your address in Canada and forwarded to you in the US before you can come back to Canada. PR card is necessary for your return to Canada in the future.

It seems that you dont need the PR card to go between Canada and US.
But you do need it, if you are coming from overseas into Canada

We went back to Canada from US last week. The airline agent at check in and the CIC officer at the port of entry in Canada asked to see the PR card- it is necessary. Hope this helps.

Hai,
You can leave canada but you have to wait till you get PR card to enter canada. In my opinion from US also because now a days they are not sending landing papers they are sending only confirmation of PR.It is not same as landing papers which used to be before.May be you seek some experts help.Best of luck

Vikram may be correct - hubby is a long distance truck driver and lost his Imm1000 some time ago. He is having a really hard time crossing back and forth from Canada to the US - he does this two or three times a week. We have gone through the citizenship process (exam, ceremony etc.) but are still waiting for the Citizenship card to replace the Landing papers. After December 15th, the hassle he has had is unbelieveable. He is now driving over a 100 kms out the way to cross at the same border each time so that they get to know him, until the card arrives. They told him without a PR card, road entry is now not going to be as easy as it was.
