Dear all! Is it possible to get a visa and enter Canada for a temporary contract while waiting for landing permit?
------------
I applied in early June. My prospective employer is offering one year with extension possibility. The idea is that if the permanent residence application doesn't work, we would just do it on temporary basis.
While we are waiting he would like to offer me just three months on temporary basis starting from January.
Can I apply for a standard entry visa and take it for the time being?
Thanks!

Yes, you can apply for an employment authorization while your have a permanent
resident application pending. In order to be eligible for an application for
employment authorization, unlike many permanent resident applications, you must have
a job offer in Canada. In some cases that job offer must be validated. Additional

You would be working in Canada and consequently you will need a Work Permit even
for 3 months.

Thanks everyone!
Just a little refinement: is "work permit" the same thing as "employment authorization"?

Yes. Under teh old law they were called employment Authorisations or EA. Under the
new IRPA they are called Work Permits. I gues because they are called that in other
countries and people used to call them that all the time anyway until they were
corrected so they must have deicede to go with the more common name.
