You can buy a quarter section of land (160 acres) in many parts of Canada for under $50,000 (CDN). In general, the further you go from the large, rapidly growing cities, the cheaper the land will be. My land (160 acres) was unserviced, but the property tax was only about $100/year. It even had two trout ponds on the property.
