Default Electrician where do we start?

Hi husband is an electrician we are looking to move to Alberta along with our 10 yr old son but where do we start? I have been reading so much information but its all confusing. Is it easy to do yourself or would you use and agency to help. Any advise would help, thanks.

Hi and welcome.

First of all you need to decide by which route you want to move to Canada - ie under which visa.

In a very small nutshell a temp work permit will take around 6 - 12 months to obtain BUT is dependant upon your o/h getting a job offer in Canada first.

Second route is straight for a permanent resident visa, which can take anything up to 4 years.

My advice would be to look at the blue bar at the top of the page. You'll see the word WIKI. Click on it, grab a coffee and sit and read it. It has all the information you could possibly need regarding immigration whats, whys and wherefores.

When you have digested some of this then come back and ask some more specific questions, as to be honest the one you started with has so many differing options and routes into Canada - it would take all day to list all of the scenarios

To answer your last question, if your circumstances are straightforward (ie no criminal history for either of you, and no medical issues for hubby, you or your son) and your hubby has a proven apprenticeship and refs for his trade, then you can do it yourself - many on here do

Fsw cat1 PR applications now take between 6-12m to process so a lot quicker than the old SW route. It took me just 8 months to get my PR. But any timeline will depend on your background and employment history.
Hope this helps
