Avoid SW Ontario.
Lived there back in 2002 when the place was booming, 200 job applications including personal meetings union hall etc. and not one offer (I have 20 years in the electrical game from electrician to company owner & senior project manager).
Suggest you contact (or check out web site) the provincial ministry of trainning and ask about equivalence assessment once successful assessed you will be permitted to write IP exam which is an inter provincial journeyman licence.
Here in Alberta there are hundreds of UK sparkies.

Hi sartois,
Check out the WIKI-has all the info you need. We intend to move next month to Calgary-hoping TWP arrives next week. We have done it all from here in Ireland. Getting a job offer is the trick but there seems to be plenty of opportunities for trades in general.

What field are you in??

We spent a yr trying to get employers to go through the paperwork for OH in ontario, but after 2 trips over gave up.
Spent 2 weeks in alberta and all interviews attended - he was offered them all

We are now a couple of days of landing over there on twp, E-LMO only took a couple of weeks to come through
We are heading 2hrs outside of calgary, ok lower wages than calgary, but like the uk and london and the north

Feel free to PM us if you need to talk

thanks for the response.
I am currently approved electrician and company I work for does domestic and commercial contracting.
what does E-LMO stand for still getting to grips with the process understand LMO?
Glad to here after all your effort you have final landed your dream move. After reading a lot of info and posts starting to relise ontario is not looking such a great option after all we have not been over to canada yet and we are still in our very early stages of move. Alberta is looking like a more realistic chance for move with my job so am beginning to look at what alberta has to offer me and my family. Big concerns as have two small kids.
What lead you to Alberta was it job related and what do you like about Alberta and the town you are moving.
Also through the whole process of your move did you us immegration consultants or did you DIY it, we are finding such firms rather expensive. And BE site seems like such a wealth of info from people that have done it and understand what its like to be in my position any advice you can give from any angle would be much appreciated.
Thanks Stuart

Glad you are realising your dream move after what I am sure has been long processs.
What type of work do you do and did you find getting a job difficult.Any advice on immegration consultants or did you DIY it.
Any info or advice about alberta would also be usefull as starting to think this might be a better option than ontario which we thought of first.
Thanks Stuart
