Default education

Hi Guys

I wonder if anybody can give me a little advice or perhaps point me in the right direction of where to look on the web?

I am searching to see what is on offer for my son who will be sitting his GCSE/s in the summer and wants to continue his education and train to become a sports coach specialising in basketball, I have no idea where to begin looking for this type of college in Canada. We are looking at Toronto or Vancouver to stay but it kinda hinges on the education and job front.
Any help or advice would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation
Sharon

Having worked in the Canadian sports system (as a Performance Director with Pacific Sport, in BC), I can say that even if your son becomes qualified and capable enough to become a regional level or provincial level coach in any sport, it's likely he'll need additional income from elsewhere to make a living. Most are paid on a part time or expenses basis, and maintain additional careers.

His best course of action would be to look at supplementing coaching qualifications (gained through the CAC), by getting a degree in kinesiology, sports psych, physiotherapy or other related disciplines. It's likely he'll have to study at a university outside of BC to achieve that. Here's one example. Unfortunately the range and choice of sports related education and careers is more limited in Canada than the UK.
