Edmonton - missing something?
Hi everyone,
Me and a couple of lads arrived in edmonton last week and to be honest feeling a bit lost as the city seems to be missing something. It is a very picturesque place with plenty of work but doesn't seem busy at all and there doesn't seem to be much of a vibe about it. We walked around downtown last night and there was barely a soul about it. We are thinking of moving down to calgary to see if there is more life down there but are thinking it could be a bit of the same? We are also thinking about heading to one of the ski resorts to work for the winter if that would be a bit better but I'm hearing it could be a bit late to apply? any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

I assume you have ventured onto Whyte Ave in Edmonton? There again there might be a reason some call it Deadmonton.

Re: missing
maybe "Deadmonton" living up to its name?
i've never been anywhere in Downtown Calgary (on a weekend night) that i'd describe as "dead"

I would head down to Calgary, there is no point being in Edmonton unless it's for work. Calgary is a great city and close to the ski resorts. If you want nightlife head to a ski resort now it is about the time you would need to start looking for work any later and you will struggle to find jobs.

Re: missing
we have 2 year work permits, im an accountant and other lads are architect and estimator but we've all done labouring and the likes before, looking for any kind of job at the minute! has anyone been to jasper? is it as big a resort as Banff as I believe most of Banff's jobs are closed? We are going to give it until Friday then see where to head I think and send out a few resumes here and there in between

I can't say anything about Calgary, Vancouver and the ski resorts but Toronto and even more Montreal have a great night life, bars, clubs, pubs

In my experience, Montreal and Toronto have the best nightlife in Canada. Vancouver isn't even close.

Suarez20....what sort of nightlife do you like? Are you a Londoner, or Northerner...or indeed the many bits between? If you can tell BE's what you are looking for, I am sure they'll let you know if you are likely to find it.

If you want nightlife then Banff will be better than Jasper, Jasper is small and quaint, I should imagine Banff was like Jasper 30-40 years ago. I don't think anywhere in Alberta has nightlife like UK nightlife tbh.

Re: Edmonton - missing something?
What is UK nightlife anyway as Im getting older and can't remember
Is it staggering out of a pub at 11pm and throwing up on a car or your mate.
Having to piss in a shop doorway and then breaking into some moronic football type chant.
The need for a curry or fish and chips/kebab and tossing the wrapper into the street.
Kicking the shit out of someone because they might be wearing clothing you take offence to or spoke to a bird you fancied copping off with but she rejected you and is now walking home with him.
Devouring E pills and drinking vodka and red bull in the latest night club.
What is this nightlife that Canada seems lacking in?
BTW all those mentioned above occur on Whyte Ave Edmonton most weekends.

Calm down, grandad, before you knock the dominoes over. I'll go and get you another half of mild and you can tell us about that time in the war when you and your mates ...

For me, it's the choice of what to do in an evening. And a choice of places to go.
