I was in Riverbend/Terwillegar area...if you are looking at fully furnished your going to be paying between $2k-$2.5k per month plus utilities for a 3/4 bedroom house.
For me it is the best part of the city that's within the city limits..i really liked it as did my wife and kids.

Seriously, if you can't be comfortable on a six figure salary, somethings wrong. I work in Engineering (Infrastructure) in BC - had a six figure salary, a family of four with two vey active teenage daughters, two cars, nice house, two dogs and had a very comfortable lifestyle.
So, just curious, what would your salary be back in the UK as it seems their salaries are lower - taking the usual, cost of living, change in currency, etc.

Hawk, as a good experienced structural engineer in the north of england UK, my gross base salary is £42,000.00 ($67,000.00CAD) after tax figure is £30,936.00 ($49,325.00CAD), I also get a company vehicle, company mobile, pension contributions, private medical insurance (not really required over here). That is a good package over here but it doesnt go far supporting a family of 5. Cost of living, my impression having been over there was that Edmonton is higher cost of living than the north of England and probably the same cost of living as the south of England and cheaper than the cost of living in London, but the increased salary more than made up for it and once my Peng was achieved I would be able to live comfortably and afford the odd luxury item/holiday.

This is going back 15 years but im sure is still valid, i come from Burnley and had a mate who lived in Oxford and spent a lot of time down there, in my own experience there was almost a pound difference in a pint of beer between his local and mine. Cost to get in the Nighclubs was more expensive, Kebabs/Pizzas etc. were at least a pound more expensive, restaurants were more expensive. Taxi's the Bus and even petrol was more expensive and as you mention houses a lot more expensive. There could be an argument that I am comparing City prices with Town prices, but at around that time I moved to Newcastle and found the prices there comparable with Burnley, so in my experience there was definatly a North - South difference in cost of living.

But that's not necessities..im sure the cost of utilites is the same as is clothes and food..the price of things like cars etc would be the same..i never noticed the price of petrol being cheaper up north.
Day to day living in Edmonton..food is about the same..petrol obviously a lot cheaper..but cars are not as fuel efficient..so works out about the same..buses are cheaper..clothes are cheaper but choice is limited..electrical goods tv computers etc are slightly cheaper..cost of utilites are slightly cheaper..mobile phones etc more expensive..north American built cars are cheaper European cars more expensive..eating out is about the same..esp when you factor in that 15% expected tip.

Having said all that I work in York and it is bloody pricey here to, I suppose a better terminology would be UK affluent area prices and UK non affluent area prices, i thought that the prices in Edmonton compared to a reasonably affluent area of the UK. Every other shop wasnt a charity or pound shop which is what I am used to and no sign of Canadian Lidl or Netto yet!
