Eating out in Peterborough ON
#1
I know there's a fair few people who know Peterborough so I hope you can give some suggestion on where to eat out. We havent been lucky with the places we have been to,- all based on local advice.
We have been to two Chinese restaurants, the Daisy and Bamboo Palace, both were dire, so are very wary about trying another. The new Indian restaurant is good, not especially authentic but its a nice place. Last night we went to Jakes as we had been told the steaks were good, they were ok but if my steak is going to be covered in black pepper and garlic before its cooked I would like the menu to say so. The vegetables were overcooked and the fries were coated with a seasoning powder, (that seems to be the norm) The mayonnaise was Miracle Whip.
I have been to the Original Greek for lunch and enjoyed that, and the same with the Hunter Street East cafe
So any suggestions for places for a middle aged couple to eat out in would be very welcome. I am sure there are plenty of good places!

Have you tried the local rags, and actually speaking to your neighbours, surely they will know?

We are not keen on places like Jakes, Kelsey's, Montana's and these buffet Chinese restaurants
These are our favourite places to go:
St Veronus Cafe & Tap Bar. Excellent (c/o Hunter & Water)
Karma's Cafe. Very nice Tibetian food (Hunter st)
38 Degrees (Water street)
Matsu - Japanese & Korean Restaurant (Park Str)
"Parkhill on Hunter" (Hunter str)
Burnham Mansion (c/o Lansdowne & Keene rd)
Holiday Inn - very good Sunday Brunches (George str)
Porch & Pint pub - very good wings (Lansdowne)

We love going out for a good supper or lunch. We also like Cosmic Charlie's and the Curry Village

Have you tried the India Food House on Hunter? Not saying its great, but as I recall its better than Curry Village. Neither hold a candle to my student days in Leeds sadly.

Karma's Cafe is in the same spot where Indian Food house was. Karma's Cafe was on the food network "Restaurant makeover" show 3 weeks ago.

Yes we did go there years ago, it's closed now, we really enjoy Curry Village, and the owner has opened a second Curry restaurant also on George (more south).
