mmm was just reading through some of the comments. The inevetable seal issue was thrown in there too pretty dam quick.

I do tend to agree with the fact that hunters are drawn for their tags. So if foriegn hunters don't enter the draw due to not being allowed to take the trophy home, the locals will just be given the quota instead and they will shoot them.

Therefore not really doing anything aside from cutting down the (however much its worth to Inuits from hunters in the US and Europe) income associated with the business.

I don't know enough about numbers to comment on the population, but the department who issues the tags each year will only issue sufficient amount to ensure correct numbers are hunted - whereby maintaing a healthy population.

I know. Unfortunately though when you make money from something like hunting there is a time that you can not longer do so (fishing communities have also been hit due to over fishing), but hopefully they will be able to find another way.

I just find sport hunting disgusting.

Hehe well there has to be a downside to a country. I do not think I will ever understand how you can get enjoyment from killing another living creature for fun.

Hunting for food is something I am fine with though (as long as the animals are not over hunted)

Most, if not all, of the deer and moose hunted in Canada are eaten! Moose meat is fab, even better when it ends up on your table for free!! Hunting in Canada is highly regulated to control animal populations.
If you don't like the idea of hunting, go live in one of the bigger cities as hunting is a popular pasttime just about everywhere else in Canada!
