I believe you'll find it on all $20 Chinese DVD players because I believe they're all basically the same chips with different logos and menus :).

They are all multi region, it's just being able to get the hack code (as someone pointed out earlier.) The only one I have never been able to hack is an all-in-one TV/DVD unit. Couldn't get that to go.
On the bright side, cheap doesn't always mean crap! I bought a new 5.1 DVD system for under $50 ( true!) and there was no need to unlock it, just dropped Peter Kay into it and away we went!! I had another one ($20) and it too didn't need unlocked.

Get a 20 dollar AudioLogic player from Loblaws. It plays anything and no need to hunt around on the internet for hack codes.

I got it to specifically watch series 3 of 'The Royle Family' (PAL) which I bought in Oxford HMV.

I agree with you Cyan. Loblaws is a good place to grab a cheapie. Just wondering, is it me, or is it easier to get an"unlocked" DVD player here than in the UK? When I had PWK(what ever happened to that show!) & DaVinci's inquest in the UK, I had to hunt for unlock codes, whereas here it's almost 90% sure that even a cheap DVD player will be multi region. Just a thought!

Hi, I bought a dvd player just today Philips DVP 3980/37,cost $60. I found a code for a 3980, at first it didn't work so I googled a bit more and found a comment that this machine buttons are touchy and you have to have them pointed dead straight at the box to work, I tried again and it worked just fine.

Just as another point, I had bought a really cheapie Walmart DVD yesterday called an OMM at $28, I could not find a code anywhere but we did find it played some British movies, we tried about 7 and it played 2 of them without any changing..curious?

However although I couldn't find a code for the Philips one with the/37 at the end , the one I used without it worked just as well.

Thought this might help someone else

Off to watch Billy Elliot!!

For those still in or visiting UK:

I have a Cambridge Audio DVD from Richer Sounds, which works on 110 or 240 v, is multi region without any codes, and can be set to PAL or NTSC, and you can also change the output for Scart or component.

I guess they designed it for export without having to build seperate models.

I went to Walmart and made a list of the DVD players I could afford, went home and looked at region hack sites. When I found a hack for a DVD player I could afford and liked the look of - I went and got it. It plays DIVX and does Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 - and for the life of me I can't remember right now what make it was! But it cost around $45...

I'd go to one of those pages that has the hack codes

cut and paste the list of hackable machines

and then print it out and go shopping

a good DVD will give a great picture and clean decode and often transfer better between NTSC and PAL

You get what you pay for
