I just thought I would tell anybody who is interested that I bought the BBC Coast Series on DVD. I followed the link to Video Help - found the hack for my DVD player:

posted on here by some kind person. I re-programmed my DVD player to 0 - popped in the first DVD and lo and behold - it worked.
