Driving test in Nova Scotia
#1
Hi well we have been here nearly 3 weeks, where has the time gone. Everything is great the only thing that worries me at the moment is my driving test as I am a little nervous.
Can anyone give advice on good areas to take your driving test. We are presently in Fall River but hoping to move to Tantallon area in a few weeks.
Any advice would be appreciated as I am now getting worried about it and just want to get it over and done with.

Hi
Welcome to NS
I did the theory last week and it was fine, I have heard the practical test is easy, literally a 10 min drive round the block.
Most places here seem to have a 6 week waiting list, so ask to be put on the cancellation list
Here us a link that we have used to practice

sorry, just to clarify, there is no wait for the theory you just turn up at the allocated times the access nova scotia centres are open, the 6 week wait is for the practical once you have passed the theory test.

kind of, sign questions are easier, the knowledge are slightly less obvious answers to the ones on the practice test. It was fine , as long as you do a bit of reading up, you can get up to 4 wrong on each test. The actual test is done on paper with 2 question cards and 2 pieces of paper. They also do the eye test before the theory, remember to take your glasses if you wear them for driving.

Like you, I was worried about taking the test when we first arrived here, especially as for me it was in February and I'd never driven in snow before. When I did take the practical I ended up feeling quite cheated - it was like Nikki said, a 10 minute drive around the block, nothing to it. The examiner said that she knew because I had a UK driving licence that I was capable and had no problems with passing me.
I took mine in Halifax, OH took his in Dartmouth, and our 2 children took theirs in Sackville. I think Sackville is probably the quietest for traffic on the roads around there etc. and fairly close to Fall River.
Good luck

Hi
I did mine in Stellarton as it had no waiting list. I was told this was because the woman who did the tests there was a bitch and no-one wanted to go there, and they were right! She failed me first time as I was driving as I used to in the UK, but here they are very into the defensive driving thing. I learnt what to do the second time I did it and passed OK. I had to drive VERY slowly and to pause when driving past any side street in case a car unexpectedly pulled out! Oh and make sure you come to an ABSOLUTE stop at a stop sign!

Oh congrats on passing your written test, was it easy or were there some tricky questions. How come you are taking test in Halifax dont you get a choice. I drove in Halifax on Saturday night and found it quite scary
Good luck with your test and good luck with house move, no one tipped us off (honestly).

We both thought there were a couple of tricky questions, but we focussed more on the online test more than the book.Spend a bit of time on both and you'll be fine...most of it is similar to the UK.
When i phoned to book the test, I just agreed to the first dates available....which were Halifax........but my wife was going to kill me

Good luck with your move as well
Colin
