Default Driving in Ontario

I wonder if you guys would be so kind as to offer me some advice. I've recently been granted a student work clearance for Canada which is valid for a year, and I'm planning to live and work in Ontario for 6 months. I'm also on the verge of landing a dream temporary job, which will involve some driving as a crucial part of the role. I have a full UK licence (and have had since April 2002) and, for additional piece of mind, got an International Driving Licence issued to me recently. If I'm staying six months in Ontario, would I need to get an Ontario licence, and would if so - would the above be sufficient to simply have a general licence issued without testing and huge costs?

Thank you in advance.

Enter into ya search engine Ontario Provincial Government - from there a trail should lead you to what you want.

I would think (if like NB) you can drive for up to 6 months on a UK one.

IDP licence is just a "sales cone", you did not need it for any Province in Canada.

At present, one can exchange a Full UK for an Ontario version (with slight limits, generally regarding Taxi and Ambulance driving).

Finally, if you run your own car - you will find that what you described you want to do - will be made prohibitive by the cost of your Motoring Insurance in Canada - Regardless of what others tell you - your premium equated to a year will work out at way over $2,000 per annum, even if you are driving a Robin Reliant !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :scared:
