Hi,
Can anyone confirm to me if you need to sit a driving test to drive in Alberta?
Or does a UK licence allow you to be let loose on the roads?...

yes
Or for the more complete answer you simply swap your uk licence for an AB one (assuming you have more than 2 years experience)

Here is a better site with more accurate info than the service Alberta one
http://shawnessyregistry.com/drivers...f_province.php
If you have a licence that is from the DVLA, you fall under the reciprocal licencing section.

as long as it takes to get to the front of the line, prove you have an AB address and get your mugshot done.

Wow.... 13 to send it back to the DVLA? Hahahah.. thats too funny.
As long as the licence is issues from the DVLA and not the DVLNI, it is a straight switch over.
I tried posting earlier with a link, but since I am so new... It doesnt seem to have gone on my post. So, here it is in writing.
You are not required to do any testing as long as the licence is a DVLA one and you have been a licenced driver for at least two years.
You go into the registry with both pieces of your licence, proof of immigration status (work visa and passport or pr card), second piece of non photo identification such as sin, alberta health care and proof of your alberta address. It must be something mailed to your home within 90 days with YOUR name and address on it.
It will cost you $64.45 as long as you are a PR. If you are here on a work visa, the licence will be issued according to the number of years you are entitled to be here, so the amount is dependant.

If that is what the registry told you, they are dead wrong or grossly misinformed

Hi Danniek and welcome to the forum. Apologies for that, but as you correctly assumed, because you were new and had posted a link, your post was circulating in cyber space until one of us mods could check it out! All ok now though.
Also, for the OP, there is loads of info on stuff like this in the Wiki (on blue bar at top of page), which has a province by province guide to driving licences.
