Yes it is. Most provinces require that you swap over your licence within 90 days of arriving and take a basic eye test. I would be more concerned on how much it will cost you to insure any vehicle you buy.

Yes - just pop to the driver centre with your license (they wanted both sections so the card & paper). Take the eye test like FL stated, hand 'em $75 (this is what it was for me in ON) and walk out with a temporary license and the real one comes through the post in about 2 weeks.

There are a lot of threads on Insurance in the forum. I'd get yourself a strong alcoholic drink, have a search and read through for an hour.
I had a letter from my insurance saying I had no claims for x number of years between what dates (not the same as a no claims leter) and also a copy of my driving record from the DVLA (costs £5 if I remember correctly)
I don't know about autopack but not a lot of companies here take your UK driving history/record into consideration.
My original quote was $4000+ and ended up getting my first insurance for $1500

What is your province of destination? Some provinces such as Ont have private insurers like the UK you shop around for a deal. Other provinces like Manitoba have Govt only insurance (Autopac) meaning you cant shop around. All rates vary from province to province. I suggest you get letters from insurance companies from the UK as getting some to accept UK no claims bonus can be a challenge.

Just a question on the driving licence exchange as well.
I passed my test in 98. Will my Ontario licence show that I acquired my licence in 98 or does it count as the day you exchange?
Thanks

The date will be when you acquired the Canadian license.

There is no such thing as a 'Canadian' drivers license, however. Each province issues its own and if you move provinces you have to switch licenses again. BC licenses only show the period of validity on them (2 years for the first and 5 thereafter), the original day you got your first license is not displayed.

What difference does it make? Your DMVL records aren't erased.
