Default driving lessons?

Hello fellow forum goers.... I've been wondering... I am originally from Germany and when you do your license there you first have to go through a certain amount of driving lessons with a certified instructor. Now I know this requirement doesn't exist in Canada and that you can even use your own car to drive around on a learner's permit, getting instructions from a friend who has a license.... HOWEVER... I don't have a car. And I don't want to bug my friends with this.

To be honest I would rather spend a bit more money and drive a car from a driving school and get lessons from a professional instructor. I don't want to end up like the rest of the drivers in Montreal. (crazy)

Does anyone know if this is possible in Canada? Or in Quebec specifically?

Thanks BTW I'm turning 24 next year and never driven a car can you believe it??? (except an old rusty pickup truck across a field in Maine once...doesn't count )

Err.. yes of course.

Look for driving schools or driving instructors in the local equivalent of the yellow pages.

You won't be able to hire a hire car for the test so you'll likely need the instructor's car for at least that.

In BC, I had a few lessons with a local instructor to learn the wrinkles of the local rules before using his car for a test.

It is certainly, IMO, better to get lessons from an instructor. You'll have a much, much better idea of what you're doing and they'll use a dual control car to keep you safe in the beginning.

90% of all drivers think they're above average. 80% of drivers in hospital for an accident they caused think they're above average drivers.

Thanks, yeah that's the difference with me. I've been kind of hesitating to get a license cause I've been afraid that as soon as I got a car I'd crash it

I took lessons from the AMA (look up the CAA as you are not in Alberta). They were very good, albeit a little pricey.

OK so we do have a car and Hubbs is more than happy to sit beside me while I practice, but using a driving instructor first gave me the confidence to actually drive the car (I have a few "issues" regarding cars following a car accident I was in several years ago as a passenger - it left me with PTSD and a total and utter screwup regarding cars)

I can't say if the instructor would allow you to use the car to sit your test, but you can certainly get good driving instructors to practice driving with.
