Hello all.
I have just moved to Calgary, Alberta from the UK. I have a full UK driving licence, held it for 7 years and it is clean.
I am here on a work permit for my first year, but plan to stay after that year is up (legally!)
What options are available to me for getting a licence/driving permit? I am aware I could get a International Driving Licence, but I was wondering if I can get anything just for Canada?
Thank you,
Andrew

you will need to swap you license for an Albertan one

most answers are in there already
just a note an international driving license is nothing more than a translation of your UK one. It does not allow you to drive internationally as such , you still have to comply with local policies regarding driving licenses.
In this case the wiki will tell you how long you have to swap it

I had to sit both tests for a BC licence .. $15 for the theory & $35 I think for the practical .. Ha Ha how cheap ..
I still cannot believe any Albertian has a licence

Not in AB or even BC now for a UK license if you have had the license for over 2 years.

Well thats good because ICBC are a pain .. They even turned around and said my Licence was invalid (Said it was a UK provisonal) even after i passed there tests

I have held the licence since 2000 .. Anyhow I read that the licence can be renued if less than 3 years expired, or if you can prove you have driven in that time (Have a GHANA Licence to prove) .. Said I would need to resit on the ICBC site? MM
