No it does not apply in BC. If you have held your UK license for more than 2 years you can just take the knowledge and road test. If you fail, then you can re-do the road test seven days later if they have a space. Get a UK driver who passed the test recently to show you what the differences are - the exaggerated "blind spot" check every time you make a manoevre, the position of wheels when you are turning across traffic (straight, not turned), facing the direction of the traffic when you park (no cross street parking allowed) and the speed. They don't use their mirrors to drive here like we do, most seem to think that mirrors, particularly side ones are just for decoration. Driving standards and driving manners are very poor and have not improved in the nine years that I have been here. Parking is a joke - lorry size spaces that people still have trouble getting into and parallel parking is a skill few seem to possess. Still, you'll be able to get a parking space anywhere, having passed your test outside BC has it's advantages!

Completely agree. The driving test in BC is waaaaaay too easy and lets too many idiots behind the wheel. Though I get a bit freaked out by the narrow streets and lanes in the UK, I generally feel like drivers here are good defensive drivers and just better drivers generally. I suspect you can be legally blind and still possess a BC drivers license but then this all really makes a lot of sense when you see it in context:
