Default Drink Driving

I've been told that a drink driving conviction (no matter how long ago) is an automatic ban to gaining immigration status in Canada.

Can anybody confirm or deny this please.

Many thanks

Stuart

Thats not entirely true.

Drink driving is a criminal offence in Canada. So it is common that people have say a DUI in a US state where it's jsut a misdemenour and they don't realise that criminal inadmissability is based on the offence under Canadian law. So they think they are fine then all of a sudden are denied because they have a criminal offence under Canadian law.

Howevere there are periods of rehabilitation. If the offence was more than 5 years ago you can apply for a certificate of rehabilitation. Also there are rules in the UK about when a conviction of certain levels are autmoaticaly deemed rehabilitated.
