Smile Dreaded Newbie :)

Hi everyone!

My name is Charlotte, Im 27 and spent the last week reading up on the forum and decided its time to introduce myself and my family.

Theirs myself, my husband Kim, and our two children Frankie (2) and Toby (8months).

We have been seriously contemplating moving to Canada for the past 3 years and now we have a few more pennies behind us, are finally looking at making the move...if we can obviously.

We are attending a seminar in London on Saturday to get some more advice on whether or not we are able to move and if so how...but would love to hear from all of you if you wouldn't mind, just so we have a broad amount of information.

I currently work as a customer advisor in a bank and have done for the past 4 years and Kim currently works overseas as a private security contractor.

We are leaning towards BC however not Vancouver, as we want something a little more rural however we are still very open minded.

Any advice would be greatly received.

Thank you in advance x

Welcome.. there is a wealth of knowledge and experience here, so you've come to the right place.

Are you going to the Canada live thing? Just dont have too high an expectation for it, most people that go are underwhelmed, and one high profile immigration company tends to try and suck people in with free assessments, but they have extremely high follow up charges. Mostly its companies dealing with Australia there.

Hi!

Thank you for replying so soon. Yes it is. Would you recommend not wasting our time and money as driving to London isn't your cheapest

To be honest the amount of information is amazing on this forum but it can get so confusing.

The eligibility test on the CIC says we would be eligible for various schemes but again, very confusing, especially after reading that without a job offer waiting we could potentially get turned down still.

Kim is able to stay in his job even if we do move so I don't know if this puts us in good stead...or whether he would need to look into re training.

Thank you again x

There was a thread about it a while back... draw your own conclusions
http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=821580

Ive not really looked at the immigration rules for a while, Ive been here 15 years now, but folks in the immigration area can usually cast some light on things, and the wiki articles are always worth a look.

Hello

It all stemmed from Kim going over in 2010 with work. He stayed for 3 weeks and when he came back he had nothing but good things to say about being over there. He did a lot of the touristy things but the majority of time he spent in Kanata.
My granddads cousin also lives in Canada so again got to hear lots about it.
From then it got us thinking really...and then the thought turned into a dream and I guess were trying to make the dream a reality.

Don't get me wrong, we have got our feet firmly on the ground and we are aware of the ups and downs, but we really want a better life for our little two and moving to Canada seems a fantastic place to do it.

Its now just figuring out the how to's...

Its such a small world!

He was at the military shooting complex. Iv just asked him what places he remembers and he said the Crazy Horse and Jack Astor were the memorable places, and all around the walmart. (doesn't mean anything to me lol)

Im assuming your originally from England then?

Welcome to BE.

I wouldn't focus on an area yet, or even 'lean towards' one, as from what you've said one of you will need a job offer to get a visa, and you may just have to go wherever you can find an employer prepared to go through the hassle/cost/paperwork of hiring you. Which may be in rural Manitoba rather than BC, so focus on the job search first!

Have a read of the Wiki for info on the various visa routes, the CIC website is great but the Wiki is far more user friendly as it's been written in layman speak rather than confusing jargon! This article is a great place to start - http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Quick_...an_Immigration

Once you've got a visa route figured out, feel free to ask any questions about it in the immi section of the forum, and any general Canada related queries (healthcare, schooling, cost of car insurance, availability of good cheese etc), should be put in the main Canada forum.

HTH, and best of luck.

Hello burden9852

would just say hubby drove to London Expo in 2012...mostly aimed at Auz/NZ...
lots of 'services' offered but only one Canadian employer (construction industry) worth talking to...
in his humble opinion...save your money!

Have found out sooo much more on here...currently awaiting LMO (Alberta)!!

We're going down the job offer/LMO to get a TWP at point of entry route!

My only advice is..don't moved because you think your children will have a better life...move because you think you and your husband will have a better life and it is something you really would love to do even if you didn't have children.
