Question Dont Know where to start

Hi Everyone,

Need a bit of advice from you all, and after reading some of the posts on here you all seem like you know your stuff.

My current situation is I'm 23 and currently work as a manager for a large recruitment company. My boyfriend of 7 years is a Plumber (and has been for 16 years) who contracts for firms throughout the UK.
We really, really want to move to canada as the outdoor life is definately for us.
This is where we need your help please?

Is it best for my boyfriend to make sure all his certifications are up to date before we apply, or is there no point as they wont be valid in Canada and he will have to resit some courses anyway?
Also I can't imagine that the job that I do is in shortage in canada so will that be a problem for me?
We are not married so will this be an issue also?
Last but not least what if we put in an application and then I enrolled in a part time University course (which will increase my education points) will I have to re-apply with the changes? If not how would I go about informing the right people?

Lots ok questions I know, thanks for taking time to read and help a friend in need!

HE WILL HAVE TO GET CANADIAN EQUIVALENT QUALIFICATIONS

Also I can't imagine that the job that I do is in shortage in canada so will that be a problem for me?

CHECK OUT THE CIC WEBSITE TO SEE IF YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO APPLY FOR YOUR OWN SPOUSAL OPEN WORK PERMIT. iF YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO HAVE ONE ON THE BACK OF YOUR OH'S WP THEN YOU WOULD HAVE TO GET A JOB OFFER AND THEN APPLY FOR AN LMO WHICH IS BASICALLY THE PROCEDURE FOR YOUR OH TO GET A WP

We are not married so will this be an issue also?

COMMON LAW - AS LONG AS IT CAN BE PROVED WOULD BE TREATED AS MARRIED COUPLE

Last but not least what if we put in an application and then I enrolled in a part time University course (which will increase my education points) will I have to re-apply with the changes? If not how would I go about informing the right people?

AM PRETTY SURE THAT YOU CANT DO THIS - BUT AM SURE THAT SOMEONE WILL CORRECT ME IF I HAVE GOT IT WRONG

One thing I would suggest is have a good read of the wiki pages on here for Canada - there is a lot of information in plain term that you could read and maybe think of some questions. You could also do a search on the forum and then just pick away at the threads and see what you can learn.

There are all types of tradesmen on this forum so they should be able to give you some pointers.

I would also check online with a Plumbers Union, ask what the job situation is like.

The GTA is probably the best area to aim for, once settled for awhile, you may look for alternative areas.

Hi I submitted my application last year, applied for a work related degree in Sept, which I have now completed. I believe that it is a case of sending the details in when updated information is requested, but I'm not sure if it's then added to the points

Cool Re: Dont Know where to start

The one thing to watch out for is the red seal test he will have to take if you come on a WP. Its the same as what a 4 year apprentice sits and they have totaly different meanings for materials and tools and different methods etc.Its well worth reading the plumbers guide and if your accepted here do some seriouse revising.
Sent you a PM. You,ll have no probs gettin work

As far as working in recruitment you shouldn't have any problems, I am still in the industry & I have two expat friends who both work for agencies. There's so many brits in recruitment in Vancouver it's like being back in blighty!
